I would like to propose the idea of being able to keep your IP address private when posting in journals and communities.
Full description of the idea
All users have the option to log IP addresses if someone comments on their journal. Some utilise this option, others don't. What I would like to propose is a choice for all users to have, and this is a personal decision of whether or not a user would like his or her IP address to be logged by others.
When I comment in communities and the journals of others, I find it unsettling to know that someone else can easily find out exactly where I live. I realise that all websites log your IP address, but I am not too concerned of this, as I highly doubt that huge websites getting millions of visitors a day would take the opportunity to find out where each person is located. What I am concerned of is individuals. I have had stalkers on Livejournal, and I was deeply disturbed when I found out that because of IP logging, they had discovered where I lived. In fact, this incident shook me up so much that I changed my IP address so it showed me in some obscure location which isn't even close to where I reside. It was a difficult process, and I felt it extremely unnecessary to have happened in the first place. I find it an invasion of privacy for other users to know such things about us. We should all have the option to keep our IP addresses private.

- Locations kept private, users less vulnerable to stalkers and other online perverts.
- Spamming? Perhaps only the IP addresses of anonymous users can be logged.
