Currently, autosaving of drafts is not implemented in LiveJournal for Apple Safari browsers, as well as other browsers like Google Chrome using the same layout rendering engine.

Full description of the idea
Safari and Chrome together comprise a significant percentage of the blogging part of the web. Additionally, the scripting shouldn't be too difficult to implement on these browsers.
