Title
Request for Purchasing Permanent Account

Short, concise description of the idea
I would like to request for another sale of a permanent account

Full description of the ideaI figured purchasing a permanent account would be better for me since I like to max out the capacity of my scrapbook. It was too late, though, that the last sale happened on ( Read more... )

LJ will sell permanent accounts when they want to, and when the account structure is settled again.

What would be interesting, however is a queue for permanent accounts - one could put themselves on a waiting list or flag interest in some other way, and then rather than having a 'sale', LJ could offer permanent accounts to a limited number of interested users when they need an extra couple of thousand dollars that month.

Where would you put the arbitrarily selected cut-off point for such a list? Just out of interest. :)

I'd guess it'd be $# of the first to sign up, since the only other version I can think of is those that've signed up by $date.

I'd be interested to read where others think the arbitrarily selected cut-off point would be best placed, and why.

A randomly generated lottery?

Of those to sign up, the first N to confirm once the sale has gone live? (As people will decide they want it with the best of intentions, but not have the actual price due to unavoidable other life events once the day has rolled around.)

Sounds more reasonable than I could come up. Ta. :)

My original thought was that LJ would email the first x of the people on the list (using something like the subscription system)and then those that confirmed (c) would pay, those that didn't confirm would stay on the list for next time, and everyone else on the list would move up x - c places.

But azurelunatic's idea is good, too.

I like both options more than the nothingness I could come up with. Ta. :)

Presumably LJ does Permanent Account sales when they need a large influx of capital. In which case the "cut off point" would be the the amount of money they need to raise divided by the amount they're charging for each account. So if they need $10,000, for example (I have no idea the amounts LJ actually deals with, but bear with me), and if they were pricing accounts at $100, they'd sell to the first 100 people on the waiting list.

I already have a permanent account, but I think a 'waiting list' is a superb idea.

If you happen to have paid time left upon getting a permanent account, that remaining paid time can be transferred to a deserving friend.

When I got my own, it was $100; when I got one for my roommate at the last sale, it was $150. I doubt they would sell them for any less than the last sale.

The differences are down at the bottom of the page here: http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=38&view=full

It was $150.

Basically there aren't a great deal of extra features over paid. The biggest one as far as I was concerned) is that you get the full quota of icons (currently 144). I worked out that in four years it would have paid for itself as I always bought extra icons.

I think there may be more scrapbook space (but I don't use that so that's not relevant to me).

LJ don't offer Perm accounts all the time. So far (since I've been around) they've offered them every couple of years. The last time was last year (I bought my two years before that). And there's never any hint as to when the next sale - which lasts a very short time - will be.

Hope this helps.

ETA Having said that, it does appear another sale will be held in November.
