When I submitted a query for such a "widget" through the Support page, the response I got was that LJ doesn't currently offer such a feature, but that I could create one for use on my webpage. Since they seem to have given me express permission to do so, I may, but I'm a bit uncomfortable with using a LiveJournal branded image, which is what I really want to do.

I've got an image I've been working on, which would be suitable for use by anyone, and which I would be happy to submit for their approval. Note that I have not yet attempted to use this image, nor have I posted it anywhere; it currently resides only on my hard drive.

The weird thing is, what I really want to do is advertise my connection with LiveJournal in a way that benefits us both. But, I'm still sensitive to the awareness that many companies reasonably feel a need to control their corporate images to prevent their use in ways that might damage them, so I do want some kind of Official Approval, before I move forward. It just seems the most reasonable course of action.
Once again, thanks for all your help.
