Title
LJ Mobile

Short, concise description of the idea
Better implementation of LJ for mobile devices

Full description of the idea
The existing implementation of LJ Mobile is lacking. Tests of most "mobile-ready" pages via http://ready.mobi result in fairly low scores.

While the mobile front page (http://www.livejournal.com/mobile) and the friends list accessible there (http://www.livejournal.com/mobile/friends.bml) will render decently, the ?format=light style appended to individual entries is *not* enough, and most pages will refuse to render on many common mobile devices.

As an example: http://etherlad.livejournal.com/340093.html?format=light rates 2/10 on ready.mobi. The page rates 13 "passes," 4 "warnings," 8 "fails," and 2 comments.

Please view http://ready.mobi/results.jsp?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fetherlad.livejournal.com%2F340093.html%3Fformat%3Dlight&locale=en_EN for more information.

Registering livejournal.mobi (redirecting to livejournal.com/mobile) might not be a bad idea, either.
An ordered list of benefits
  • Wider, more universal support for Livejournal on mobile devices. This is really the only thing, but I feel it's rather major, especially as mobile phones become more prevalent.
An ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • Investment of time. That's really the only drawback I can think of.
