Title
Custom Filter for Expunged List

Short, concise description of the idea
Create a filter that will search recycled usernames by more than just first letter/number.

Full description of the idea
I want to change my username...so I went to expunged_list.bml to find inspiration (or a new name to use). I already decided that I do not want numbers in my new name.

However, the filter button only sorts names by first letters/numbers. This is helpful, but not helpful enough. I believe the filter should have more options so that the choices can be narrowed down.

How about a drop down menu (separate from the letters) that gives you the choice between "usernames with letters and/or numbers" (default), "usernames with letters only," and "usernames with numbers only," with check boxes for including/excluding underscores ("including" being default)?

usernames with letters and/or numbers = all usernames (ex: f4irydu5t or nashvillestar)
usernames with letters only = leaves out usernames that include any numbers (ex: dr_rock_light, but not s0ldi3r)
usernames with numbers only = leaves out usernames that don't include numbers (ex: p1pb0y, but not obi_ani)
check box including underscores = all usernames (ex: tashalyfe or wtf_detective)
check box excluding underscores = leaves out usernames with any underscores (ex: indecisivebelle, but not _salazar_)

I believe this covers all of the options.

Once these choices are made, each letter can be searched through with the above restrictions.

For example, I would choose "letters only" and include underscores. Then I could go letter by letter and look at all of the usernames-that have no numbers, but may or may not have underscores-to find one that I liked.
An ordered list of benefits
  • Makes lists to sort through shorter
  • Makes names easier to find, therefore more likely to be recycled/used
  • Seeker can ignore the usernames s/he doesn't want
An ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • Other than creating more work for the programmers, I can't think of any. If pointed out I'd be willing to discuss them.

purged accounts, account renaming, § no status
