Problems/issues: About 100,000 women would object.

Constant harassment from men seeking dating/cybersex/meet-ups. It's a problem on MySpace as well as on instant messaging services that allow searching by gender such as Yahoo.

I'm a guy and I get that harassment on other sites. Primarily from men, maybe, but the occassional woman, too. The comment in itself is somewhat sexist.

Besides, there are plenty of other things people can search on to harass...location, interests (I think I shall search for people interested in 'cuddling' later...), and by friending (friends bob, friended by bob). Should we remove, those?

One aspect of LJ is the ability to search for people who will share common interests? What if someone wants to further restrict an interest search by gender? If people are gonna be a problem, adding the ability to search by gender isn't going to make that significantly easier. I see more benefit than problem.

This should be implemented in the new search system. Probably will be, too.

This will turn into an issue for people who wish to express a non-traditional gender status.
