Underneath the -default- selection while choosing your userpic for the entry, there should be a -random- selection.

My reason is because many of us have a ton of userpics to choose from, and I know many of us use certain userpics depending on the entry,

It's a FF extension called LJHook. :-)

I don't know when the last time you used it was, but you can turn that setting off. I have it off for just that reason.

Is that random as in "randomly selected when posting", or as in "randomly selected when displaying the entry"?

Both of those are actually kind of neat ideas, but I think she's referring to the former. That being said, I like this idea. (Sorry, Pau, saving myself a second comment) ;)

"Random at posting time" requires a UI change, but no database change: once a userpic is assigned to the entry, it doesn't matter whether the user chose it, or the user interface did.

"Random at display time" means the database has to remember "random" was requested, which is a more extensive change (and possibly much more, depending on how the code is designed).

Indeed. I'd support the former, but not the latter. It'd also (to me) get a bit irritating to see userpics changing every time I load my friends page and not knowing whether the friend changed them or if they selected random.

I like this! When I had a paid account with 35 icons, I filled the slots but only ever posted with this one, which is my default, and maybe two others.
