Title
Subject Line Editing in Comms

Short, concise description of the idea
Allow maintainers to edit a subject line in a community post.

Full description of the idea
As new maintainers of our search comm, we've implemented a firm "specific subject line must be added" rule which everyone cooperates with. Older posts weren't held to this standard and so scrolling the archives doesn't help a searcher find an old entry that might answer his search request, meaning that to really use the Archives you have to click into each post, which is very time-consuming and so it's easier to just ask the same questions time after time because it's faster to do that and hope someone will answer than doing a self-search. This is obviously something that could have been avoided had the original creator of the comm insisted on specific subject lines at the very beginning. She didn't and we current maintainers would appreciate being able to do some years old housekeeping.
An ordered list of benefits
  • Editing to add or modify subject lines to old posts would benefit everyone who searches the archives. A searcher would only have to view the topics for the month and quickly review to see if any posts are pertinent to his or her request.
  • Editing to add or modify subject lines to old posts would help maintainers with tagging.
  • Adding this functionality would really enhance community usefulness and ease of maintenance.
An ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • I can't think of any drawback for this suggestion. We don't want to edit the actual entry; if a post is that objectionable, we'd simply delete. This is merely to help maintainers with housekeeping duties within the comm.
