Title
Limit aggregate poll results according to set security option

Short, concise description of the idea
It should be possible to limit the ability to view the aggregate poll results according to selected settings.

Full description of the idea
At the moment only "the text entry responses and voters" are able to be limited to viewing by "Friends" or "Just Me" rather than made available to "All." This is insufficient for situations where the results of the poll are intended to be a surprise. For example, many communities like to run "awards" for creative works such as icons, poetry, stories, etc. No one is supposed to know the standings for each entry until the end of the voting period. This means that communities are forced to have votes entered in screened comments and tallied manually--a complicated process when there are a significant number of voters involved.

I hereby suggest that poll creators be able to secure the visibility of ALL results INCLUDING aggregate results, rather than only the text entries.

Additionally, it would be beneficial to provide the options to: (a) later make the results public once the poll has closed, and (b) allow results to be limited to viewing by a custom friends-group.
An ordered list of benefits
  • Providing the option to limit the viewing of aggregate poll results would make the voting system far more useful to people interested in using it for more than gathering informal opinions and/or gauging interest. One of the wonderful things about the LJ polling system is that it prevents any given username from voting more than once--I, for one, would really love to use that to my advantage.
An ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • None that I know of.
