Location-themed seasonal headers

Title
Location-themed seasonal headers

Short, concise description of the idea
LJ should recognise where in the world a signed-in user is from, and - for example - generate an autumn header for a user in Australia while a spring header is shown for a user in the UK

Full description of the idea
LJ is planning seasonal headers for this year and has currently launched a poll to choose a Spring header. This has generated complaints in the latest News post (eg here: http://news.livejournal.com/123022.html?thread=81400718#t81400718) that users living in the southern hemisphere are being ignored. By identifying a signed-in user's location, LJ should be able to generate a custom header related to the user's hemisphere. (Of course, it could be taken further, to allow for country-specific festivals, but even just to recognise that summer in the northern hemisphere is winter in the southern would be a significant advance).
An ordered list of benefits
  • - Keep the user base from different parts of the world happier that they are not being ignored in favour of the 'louder' northern hemisphere, particularly the US
  • - Makes LJ more inclusive
An ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • Someone would have to do a tiny bit of coding?

site header, holidays, internationalization, § no status
