well i think you're right about charlotte's voice being unique. i liked the way that the song used a kind of march-ish beat to go with the "army" theme and i thought the sound that plays in the background throughout was a nice touch - i THINK it's just a muted electric guitar chord? i really have no idea but i think it was nice. her voice is almost borderline-annoying for me just because the accented words were too dramatic sometimes. but that's just my ~preference.
i really love alison sudol's voice so i automatically liked ashes and wine, but i think it could've been a bit..idk more, i guess. i haven't heard enough of her songs to make a good comparison but it seems like she writes predominantly love/breakup songs and that gets old pretty fast. she's lucky her vocal technique is appealing or else she'd be boring imo
the weepies are also lucky because i love groups with mixed voices aka male/female in the same group. it gives a nice contrast and kind of balance to it, and despite the little jingle bells in the background, the song it's overwhelmingly christmas-y so ia with you, you could play it whenever and it'd still be relevant. both of their voices have just the right ~twang for me, i might've liked this song the best.
everyone always tells me that her voice is almost annoying but idk, it makes me really like that she takes that kind of chance with her music and voice and i guess after seeing her live (which was the reason i actually got into her) her voice is just as good live as on cd if not better. i think her voice is probably an acquired taste.
i have that whole cd and it took me like 2 times to actually really appreciate it. but aren't most songs about love and loss? lol
i just love that song because i hate most christmas ones because they get so old so fast and that one doesn't \o/
