Author's Notes: This is a little something to ease my way into the awesomeness that is Ryan/Seth. Plus, it’s just too cute of an idea to pass up. I have a feeling there will be more written for this universe..maybe.
Plus. This is actually my second attempt at Ryan/Seth. Am still working on the first one.
*Edit* Took me ages to edit all the text in here!!! GODS. All the above was at the bottom of the page and everything else was bolded and spaced weird! I hope that this never happens again. sigh
Ryan stares at calm, brown eyes across from him.
They’re making fun of him, of that he’s sure. They stare back at him unblinkingly, maybe even a little bit challengingly. Ryan narrows his own. He’s not afraid of him. He’s five years old already, not a little baby anymore. He can take care of himself now.
Ryan is sitting on his new friend’s bed. They just met in Kindergarten a few weeks ago and his name is Seth Cohen. He likes playing with the little toy boats. He says he really wants to go have an adventure somewhere maybe, one day, when he’s all grown up and can go onto the ocean. He was even cool enough to invite Ryan along so he agreed. It’s not like he has any plans 10 years from now.
Seth Cohen is also a really talky kind of person. Ryan doesn’t know any other kids that can talk as much as Seth can so he is a little amazed. Not many kids know as many big words as Seth does either. And Seth’s the nicest boy EVER. He shares all the latest Batman and Superman comics with him. They can’t really read all the words in the bubbles yet but one of the teachers, Miss Jill, always found time to read to them while they stared at the fight scenes and stuff.
Not only that, but Seth is one of the few boys who Ryan actually likes. The girls are always crying over something or laughing really shrilly while they played with their dolls. Girls are just plain weird. And some of the other boys are just very whiny and mean. They hog a lot of the good toys to themselves like the soccer ball and the yellow dump truck.
Zach is a nice enough kid but Ryan prefers spending time with Seth more. After all, Seth is his first friend here. On the first day of school, Ryan was exploring the room while his mom talked about boring grownup stuff with the head teacher of the Kindergarten. He soon wandered into the play area and stumbled upon a curly headed boy making sound effects while playing cars. The boy just looked up at him, brown eyes peering into his face for a moment, then a toothy smile broke through and he said hey.
Of course, Ryan had manners and greeted the boy politely in return.
The moment that cemented their friendship was when Ryan accepted Seth's "Do you want to play?" and they began to race assorted Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars together.
A few glorious weeks later, Ryan finds himself participating in this staring contest with a plastic horse. He really dislikes that thing.
He hadn’t given the horse much thought when Seth had first introduced them to each other but that had all changed. All of a sudden, Ryan noticed that this little, plastic horse was everywhere that Seth was.
It sits quietly nearby them at all times, the unofficial third member of their little group.
It annoys Ryan that Seth’s attention and affections aren’t completely focused on him. He understands that Seth’s always had that little horse, that it was his only companion for most of his life, but Ryan is here now so he should like stick it on a shelf somewhere or whatever.
Seth soon meanders into his room and announces that they have run out of sugary cereal to eat and suggests that they head downstairs to watch a new episode of Arthur while they wait for lunch to start.
As expected, he brings the toy horse with them. Seth leads the way down the short flight of stairs and with Ryan’s added height advantage, due to him being on a few steps higher up than Seth’s, he locks his gaze with sightless, brown eyes over his friend‘s shoulder.
‘Don’t think that you won, Captain Oats. The war is SO not over.’
Seth turns his head just then and Ryan quickly plasters a smile on his face. He shoots another look of contempt at it when Seth is busy flicking past channels at a rapid pace. Then, he slyly moves to sit between Seth and the horse, feeling a small burst of satisfaction as his friend doesn’t even notice.
‘Ha. Take that.' Ryan smirks smugly.
The End.
