Yes! I DID IT

I did my second interview this week and I GOT PROMOTED TO MARKETING SPECIALIST. I'm so excited! It will be difficult: starting a job that is going to develop because it's a new position. And it will be a lot of work learning about the YMCA but I'm up to the challenge. I think I'll be in charge of driving membership to the health & wellness centers in the Portland/Vancouver area. As for how I'm supposed to do that or what else my job will entail... welll I'm unsure how the logistics are going to work.

This is my I got my cake and I get to eat it too: They are letting me still go to Japan. Because with inter-office transfers and promotions you have to work your old job for 2 weeks before you start, so since I already requested the time off from Chris, I still have the ability to go to Japan to meet with Kevin. That trip is going to be from January 13-20.

Now with a full-time job this is my second time getting a "real" job and graduating into the world of adults. The last position was in NYC in 2006 as a publishing assistant which was a fancy term at that company for "receptionist." I hated how isolated I was from my family and from Oregon and then when Michelle died I realized how important it was to be with the people I love in a place that relaxed me and made me happy. So, I moved to Kirkland, WA where I remained isolated from what I really needed which was to be close to my family and to work in Oregon. Then Kevin and I moved in together and I worked at a Starbucks in downtown Portland. That was all right but I started to break out of my isolation because I had friends that lived in Portland and I met people at work. Then we went to Europe and that improved my bond with Kevin which was fantastic. Then I came back and found two part-time jobs: One at the Y doing administrative duties along with some writing, designing and event coordinating and the other at Borders working in the Seattle's Best Cafe. I LOVED working at the Y but I knew that full-time positions at corporate opened up so rarely, so I was resigned to working there part-time and I was happy about it. The people were so friendly and so kind to me and helpful with their criticism. I was frustrated that I still had to pair it with Borders, but still, the cafe there wasn't that bad at all-- not NEARLY as stressful as Starbucks! I got some great perks with saving money.

And now... so quickly after starting there in September, I have an exciting new full-time position that I'll get to develop and I am confident that I can add aspects of what I love in to my daily work schedule and I'm sooooo pleased!
