I don't know who actually reads their LJ friends page, but I thought I would give a mini update. I am working two part-time jobs now: YMCA and Borders. I work in the cafe making coffee at Borders and I hope after Christmas I will learn (wow, I just typed "lurn"-- I need sleep) how to work as a book seller which means that I get to help people find ( Read more... )

I always struggle with going to the gym too. However, I find it easier when I take group classes there. Especially when if you miss a class, you get behind on what they are doing. It really motivates you not to miss the class. I don't know what the Y offers you for free though. Also, since you work there, you should just bring your clothes and a water bottle every day. Then you'll already have your stuff, so there's no excuse not to go. Also, try to find things you actually enjoy doing. If you hate the treadmill, DON"T USE THE TREADMILL. There are lots of other ways to burn calories. Another great way to lose weight, is really to start walking a lot. Find ways that you can walk more in the day. Park further from work. Take the long route to the bus stop, etc. I think you would enjoy a tae kwon do class. Everyone I know that has taken one, has loved it A LOT! Plus, you learn some self defense. I should be taking it myself. Lol.

Those are good suggestions. The only problem is that I don't work in a fitness center, I work in the headquarters, which is an office building. But you are right, I could keep a pre-packed bag in my car so on my home from work I could go the 1/4 mile out of my way to stop by the gym. There is a tai chi class that I've done a few times and the yoga and pilates classes are included in my free membership.

yay karla!

i think going to the gym is hard with this weather! or that is how i feel. i didn't go for several weeks because i hadn't paid my bill, but now i am all paid up and finished moving and have nothing to do in the evenings so i SHOULD go but its really hard to leave the house when its so gross outside!

but anyway i like going to the gym to read my US weekly magazines they have their, so that makes me excited to go, and i used to go to watch the TV since I didn't have cable, hah. But I second making a good playlist if you have an ipod or something, and yeah i like listening to podcasts and nerding out to NPR as i run.

good luck!
