Arriving in Madrid

Man, even making it out of the Portland airport was an adventure. We got there at 5am and found out the plane had been put out of commission from a cracked windshield. So they were rerouting everyone through their partner airlines. We were headed to Newark but we were changed to go to Washington DC with UNited. We get over to United and Kevin gets through just fine and then I get to the counter and they're like "sorry, you just missed the checked bag cut off, you'll be unable to fly with us today!" Well naturally, there was an immediate uproar from Kevin and I but finally a supervisor said ok, since it was just a backpack and the flight was pretty empty. So we at this point only have 20 minutes to get through security and board the plane. Naturally, I had to throw away all my bottles of toilettrie stuff (cry) but I still managed to get through with toe nail clippers and tweezers. We were the last people on the plane but we made it. We get to Washington and hang out for our red-eye to Paris. That flight was super duper empty, I got to watch Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium and michael Clayton. We arrive in Paris. We have 12 hours of layover so we go in to the city for a wee bit. Our mission: to find Internet so Kevin can send in his time sheet to the boss. We find it finally in a Starbucks coming out of one of the big hubs. Unfourtuntaley it was too cloudy to see the Eiffel Tower, but we at least were busy until we decided to go back to the airport just to sleep. We were literally falling asleep in the chairs in starbucks. It was funny, the menu was the same but SHIT, a tall was like 4,30E! I couldn't believe it!

We arrived in Madrid safely and found our hostel, Los Amigos Opera Backpacking Hostel, relatively quickly. We scarfed down some BK because it's right next door and then we went for a pint at the O'Brien's Irish Pub but by then we were TOTTALLY exhausted. So we went to bed and now I'm up at 6am and I have a runny nose, sore throat and a sinus headache. Ugh, I hate flying. I'm downing the water like...well, water :P

So, no interesting stories today/yesterday. But note to self: backpacking is a bitch! My bag weighs just under 30 lbs. It sucks hard core. Ok, more to keep coming.
