Description: One of the few survivors of the Jedi massacre at the temple, Kyuhyun is on the run from the Empire. Revenge has become his raison d'être, but life changes when he meets a young spaceship captain named Zhoumi.

Dedicated to my Haebby. <3

Panting, Zhoumi came to his feet. Kyuhyun wasn’t satisfied with Zhoumi’s progress, not at all. The captain had been unable to reproduce the stunning move he had pulled off during their first match. Kyuhyun was frustrated with him, but trying not to show it.
Maybe it was something like stage fright; now that he knew that Kyuhyun expected him to do something specific he could not do it again.

Sighing, Kyuhyun turned to the other. “Enough for today. You did well.”

Zhoumi was pretty good at grasping the physical aspect of the moves Kyuhyun was teaching him. It was just that Jedi fencing techniques required use of the Force in order to develop their true power. Zhoumi would never be truly good at this if he didn’t learn to use the Force to his advantage. To Kyuhyun it was easy; reaching into the Force and letting it lead his hand felt almost as easy as breathing. But Zhoumi couldn’t.

“I didn’t do as well as you hoped and it’s only a couple of hours before we reach Alderaan. You’re nervous,” Zhoumi remarked calmly.

“I’m not nervous. There’s no reason for me to be,” Kyuhyun replied as calmly as he could; Jedi weren’t nervous, not about things like this anyway.

Well, he had done everything he could for Zhoumi. They would part in Alderaan and he might never see him again. He had no idea what to do in Alderaan, though. While the planet was the safe haven of most politically persecuted people and organisations in the galaxy, he was pretty sure that the rebels wouldn’t have ads in the newspapers, requesting young, inexperienced Jedi to join them.

And again Zhoumi displayed his uncanny ability of speaking Kyuhyun’s thoughts aloud. “You have nowhere to go in Alderaan, right? You don’t even know what you want to do there and yet you came along with me.”

“What are you doing in Alderaan then?”

“I’m going to Aldera.”

“What are you doing in Aldera?”

“Stuff.”

Kyuhyun decided not to pry; he understood why Zhoumi didn’t want to speak about his secrets. He sat back on a chair, watching the other return to the chess board as he had done whenever he got a chance to.

They were both silent now; Kyuhyun watching and Zhoumi playing.

But it was a comfortable silence as it can only be shared by friends.

When they landed at their hangar in Aldera Kyuhyun knew that something was wrong.
The area was secluded - a private hangar. That wasn’t unusual; a lot of pilots liked booking their hangars in advance since Aldera was such a popular destination. The redhead leading a troop of sinister looking men, however, did.

Kyuhyun stood just outside the exit, waiting for what was to come. He hadn’t bothered with his lightsaber just yet, but he would use it if they were going to threaten him.

“Seasoning, you’re here!” the redhead said, grinning.

“Nice to see you, too,” Zhoumi laughed.

He walked towards the redhead without hesitation, hugging him briefly. “Kyuhyun, come down. These are my friends.”

Kyuhyun looked at them, unsure what to do. He sensed that these people weren’t quite what they appeared to be and that was proof that he still didn’t know everything about Zhoumi. There was still something that the other was hiding from him and it bothered Kyuhyun that it was so easy for Zhoumi to trick him, untrained as he was.

It didn’t matter anymore, though. He would go and try to find a place to stay now. After that he would find the rebels and offer his help. He couldn’t afford to lose track of his goals.

“Well, see you around,” he muttered and started towards the exit.

Of course it didn’t go as smoothly as he’d hoped.

“Just a moment there,” the redhead purred, stepping in his way. “Is that who I think?” he asked Zhoumi and the latter nodded.

“This is Cho Kyuhyun,” he confirmed.

“Great! Wookie will be so pleased.”

Kyuhyun stared at the redhead, then turned to Zhoumi, his eyes blazing with rage. “So this was your plan? You went out to find me and take me here? What for? To betray me to the Empire?! I should have known better, I should have-“

“We don’t want to betray you,” a soft voice spoke up from behind the redhead.

One of the men following him had stepped up to speak to Kyuhyun and he kept advancing further, slowly, almost as if he was afraid to provoke the boy. He was a lithe, extremely graceful young man, clad in black leather pants and a soft grey jacket.
Kyuhyun sensed no lie beneath his words, nothing but honesty and the wish to help.

Still wary, he barked at the other, losing control of his emotions yet again. “So what do you want then?”

Another man stepped forward, stepping in front of the other, shielding him with his body.

“He’s only trying to help, you know.”

“Siwon, don’t. He doesn’t understand,” the first man said, taking another step towards Kyuhyun. He wasn’t armed, his outstretched hands bare. He would not be able to defend himself should Kyuhyun choose to attack him. At the same time Kyuhyun sensed that the man could have defended himself easily, that he was probably stronger than the protective guy.
But Jedi didn’t harm anyone who was defenceless, anyway.

There was something curious about this pair; Siwon was being protective of the other man like any friend would be in such a situation, but Kyuhyun felt an undercurrent of something entirely different around them. Slipping deeper into the Force, he turned his full attention on them, determined to find out what this was all about.
Siwon’s brightness was almost blinding; the man would have made a fine Jedi knight if only the Force was stronger in him. Integrity and honesty paired with innocence and love for all beings. But brighter than all of this shone his love for … Hangeng, the soft-spoken man.

An equally bright light responded to Siwon’s, bathing them both in a shimmer invisible to the physical eye. There were other things, though, just below the surface of their mutual love; fear, restraints imposed on them by their respective societies and the wish to not burden the other with their feelings.

It was in this moment that the Force granted Kyuhyun a brief glimpse of the future, something it rarely did. It brought a gentle smile to his lips; Siwon and Hangeng would be together, a couple more deeply in love than any other. They would have to overcome many obstacles and even if the future was always in motion, there was no doubt about them.

Their obstacles would be dark ones, though. He saw pain and blood on their way; Siwon’s tears washing over a mortal wound …

And that was when he realised who and what they were.

He turned towards Zhoumi, his eyes blazing, but with excitement now. “You are the rebels, aren’t you?”

“That we are,” the redhead replied with a cocky grin. “And you’re going to join us.”

The way through the streets of Aldera was short. The rebels had made sure to bribe everyone they could get a hold of to make sure they would not be stopped and questioned by any Imperial officers. Quite a lot of them were now stationed here, trying to hunt down the rebels and criminals hidden on the planet.

Kyuhyun was surprised by the capital’s beauty. There were parks and flowers everywhere and the people seemed happy. He’d never been on a planet like this and part of him longed to stay here forever, to finally find peace. But he knew that wasn’t possible, not yet. He still had something to do before he could rest.

Soon he no longer had the time to even think of rest because he was led into a large mansion and down the stairs into a spacious cellar.

“Welcome to our HQ,” Heechul, the redhead, crowed. “Wookies, you guys around?”

Frowning, Kyuhyun wondered why Heechul called the Wookies by the name of their species rather than a given name; it seemed very disrespectful.
But the next minute he understood: A Wookie stepped forth, a very lithe, almost fragile looking youth at his or her side.

“Welcome, Kyuhyun,” the boy said softly. “My name is Ryeowook. This is Mallamapia, a friend.”

The Wookie, a female as Kyuhyun realised, grunted something that was obviously supposed to be a greeting.

Kyuhyun bowed politely; angering a Wookie was not a very bright idea and if he planned on staying around a bit longer he would have to make sure she accepted him.

“Please let me introduce our other members, too,” Ryeowook continued.

He pointed towards Heechul, who grinned back at Kyuhyun. “This is my second in command, Kim Heechul. His parents were loyal to the Old Republic and lost first their fortune then their lives to the Empire. We have been together for a very long time.

“This is Hangeng, Prince of the Nanai system. He has been faithful to our cause for as long as I can remember. I’d trust him with my life.

“And this is Choi Siwon, sole heir to the Choi Corporation.”

This sparked Kyuhyun’s interest. The Choi Corporation was famous for building the most sophisticated star fighters in the galaxy; it would certainly help to have someone like him on board.

Ryeowook introduced a couple of others, but it was clear that Heechul, Hangeng and Siwon were the most important ones.

“So you want me to join your ranks?” Kyuhyun finally asked. “What for? Why have you been looking for me of all people?”

Ryeowook looked at him sadly. “You have survived all of this time. You must be strong. And we need a Jedi if we are to succeed with our upcoming mission.”

“What mission?”

And this was the turning-point of Kyuhyun’s life.
