“Once upon a time there was this boy who fell in love with another boy and yeah ... well, the boy is me, Kyuhyun. Talking about this makes me feel uncomfortable, but sometimes you just have to get certain things out of your system.“
„That’s ... nice, dear,“ Heechul replied, sounding almost motherly. “Who does my precious little dongsaeng want?“
“That’s creepy, Heechul. Like ... really creepy.“
Heechul rolled his eyes and shifted his weight a little, making sure to keep Siwon’s arm wrapped around his waist. “I feel motherly today.“
Siwon smiled at Kyuhyun. “You wanted to tell us about the boy you’ve fallen in love with.“
Kyuhyun looked at the glass of coke in his hands, trying to gather enough courage to tell his band mates. Maybe he shouldn’t have chosen Sichul for advice after all. Why hadn’t he gone to Kangteuk instead? Oh right, there was that tiny little problem Kangin had with people getting too close to that certain person ...
“Well, it’s Sungmin,“ Kyuhyun finally whispered, looking back up only to find Heechul yawning.
“This is boring. Couldn’t you have chosen someone less obvious?“
“I’m sorry, hyung,“ Kyuhyun replied sarcastically. “It’s the manager.“
“Now you are the one being creepy.“ Heechul shuddered at the thought and opened his eyes like a lazy cat. “But back to your ‘problem‘. I don’t really think you have one. We’re talking about Sungmin here! He’s cuddly enough if it’s not for the cameras. Just ... catch him and kiss him senseless.“
Kyuhyun rolled his eyes at Heechul’s suggestion. “He’s not that cuddly and even if he were, I’d like it to be a bit more meaningful than that.“
Sighing once again, Heechul sat up. “It all depends on what you want, Kyuhyunnie. But it’s usually best to be honest about your feelings. You could find a new prime number and name it Sungmin number. That’d be really meaningful, not only for Sungmin, but for the world in general, but isn’t that a little over the top? The same goes for red roses and sappy love songs. It’s all too much and it doesn’t mean a thing.“
Siwon nodded to that. “Just tell him how you feel. Maybe he’ll say he loves you too and maybe not. But at least you’ve tried.“
That wasn’t what Kyuhyun had wanted to hear, not at all. Pouting at the others‘ lack of enthusiasm, he left them to find someone else willing to listen to him.

“Text him,“ Donghae suggested. “Or if you don’t want to face him, just call him. Or ... write him an e-mail.“
“But wouldn’t that be too impersonal?“ Kyuhyun asked. “Aren’t you supposed to be ... physically present when you’re talking about such things?“
He was getting tired of running around asking his hyungs for advice. Even Donghae, who was his idol usually, didn’t have good advice for him, no magical key to solve all his problems and win the princess for him.
“I feel kind of weird talking about my feelings and I can’t express myself very well so I usually write letters when I have something to say,“ Donghae explained. “But you’re not me so that might not work for you. Sorry I don’t have any better advice for you, Kyuhyunnie. I hope it’ll work out.“
And with that Donghae turned away to go about playing one of his beloved video games.

“You could give him a pretty present,“ Ryeowook suggested.
“Or take him for dinner and tell him afterwards,“ Yesung said. “That’s what I did with my ex-girlfriend and it worked really well.“ Sighing, Yesung stared off into space. He was probably thinking of Eva again, Kyuhyun thought, and rolled his eyes. It’d been a long time since Eva had ditched him so why couldn’t he just let it go for now when he, Kyuhyun, had such an important problem to deal with?
“Are you talking about Sungminnie?“ Eunhyuk asked, flopping down on the couch beside Kyuhyun. “Why don’t you two watch a horror movie? Shindong says Sungminnie’s really scared of Kayako so it might work ...“
“God, don’t mention her ...“ Ryeowook shuddered at the memory of the creepy ghost. “But I like that idea. It’s classical.“
“It’s not gonna work,“ Kangin chirped up from behind them. “Sungminnie’s not scared of Kayako anymore since I told him I was gonna beat her up if she ever got close to any of you guys.“
Ryeowook rolled his eyes at Kangin. “Couldn’t you have waited with that until Kyuhyun’s confession?“
“Please don’t yell, boys. I’m sure we can solve this little problem peacefully,“ Eeteuk began, but was interrupted by a pillow flying his way.
Thus the pillow fight began, which was Kyuhyun’s cue to vanish.
There was still one person he hadn’t asked for his advice.

“Sungmin, can I come in?“
“It’s your room, too, you know? Just come in.“ Sungmin was lying on his bed, reading a book, when Kyuhyun stepped in. The younger boy gulped at the sight of Sungmin’s slightly exposed belly. He had to bite the inner side of his cheek to stay focused on his current task; asking out the man he loved.
“Hyung ... I have a question.“
“Sure.“ Sungmin sat up, smiling at the younger man. “What is it, Kyuhyunnie?“
“I’m in love with someone and I don’t know how to tell them. The problem is ... I get so nervous every time I’m around him because he means the world to me and I don’t want to fuck up what we have right now. I couldn’t live without him right by my side, smiling, playing with his bunny slippers ...“
Uh-oh. He’d given away something he shouldn’t have ...
“I see ...“ Sungmin bit that cute little bottom lip of his, looking up at Kyuhyun. “I’m sure ... you didn’t really plan on ... saying it like this and ... God ...“
Sungmin didn’t really like talking about his feelings either, which was the reason why Kyuhyun had never brought up something like this before. He had the awful feeling that he’d completely blown it now. He wanted to reach out, pull Sungmin into his arms and tell him it’d been a joke and he shouldn’t worry, but he couldn’t. He couldn’t degrade his own emotions, which he’d kept bottled up for far too long, to a mere joke.
“Even if you don’t love me back,“ he whispered. “Couldn’t you at least tell me so? It’d ... be very helpful, hyung.“
Sungmin slowly shook his head, obviously trying to come up with a reply. “It’s ... it’s not that. I do love you, Kyuhyun. I’m just not sure how much or in what way. The way I love Donghae is different from the way I love Kangin or Shindong. It’s not easy.“
And again that wasn’t what Kyuhyun wanted to hear. “It is that easy,“ he insisted. “Either you love someone or you don’t. Why can’t you answer that question?“
Kyuhyun didn’t like the expression on Sungmin’s face at all, it almost seemed like the older man was scared of him, but he couldn’t stop now that he’d come so far.
“Please tell me, Sungmin.“
“I can’t. I just don’t know how I’m supposed to feel about this,“ Sungmin whispered. “I didn’t even know you were ... like that and ... no.“
He leapt up, running past Kyuhyun and out of the apartment before the younger man could even make a move to stop him.
Kyuhyun remained standing there for a very long time. And then he remembered Siwon’s words and smiled to himself. It wasn’t even a bitter smile, but he felt bitter and older than he really was. He’d been rejected for the first time in his entire life and it’d take a long time for this wound to heal.
