Today I got to visit the most beautiful house I think I've ever seen. It belongs to an elderly lady and I was there to see if it would be someplace I would like to live for the summer.
Everything about this house is gorgeous. Especially the picture windows you could ride an elephant through that frame a beautiful view of Lake Michigan and the dunes. You can even see Chicago from her living room on a clear day. I would have my own room, bathroom, kitchen area. Stirling would have his own bathroom too as a little cubby under the stairs that is perfect for litter boxes. Everything is furnished so I wouldn't have to bring a bed or dressers or any of that junk... She doesn't want any rent from me. Just help with things like taking out garbage or bringing in the mail. She complained that it's hard to hang the hummingbird feeder when it's full and that those darned 15 or so birds sure drank a lot.
So why am I bulking? I guess one thing that concerns me is how Stirling would behave. There aren't any other cats there and he can get needy. I'm also afraid that this woman might be one of those random people that Stirling might hate. He does that. Random... mauling of certain people. He also has a minor bad habit of clawing furniture. I would feel TERRIBLE if he ripped up one of her pieces. He also loves windowsills and she has a wonderful collection of plants lined up.
What else? I would have to get another phone line installed. She has dial-up on her current line but.. that's for her. I'm an internet hog. I know it. Hahah but hopefully that would be easy to work out.
The other place I looked at just seemed sad in comparison. There were sheets hung from the ceiling of the basement to separate 'rooms'. A twin bed and some shelves. She wanted $250/mo for the place which is reasonable but it's not in the greatest neighborhood. No one has touched her lawn in a LONG time and lawn work was part of the agreement. I also have to pretend not to be there when her daughter is around, except for in the kitchen.
I guess I really like the idea of living alone. I've never really lived alone.. but in doing so I'd have to come up with all those furnishings. Bleh.
We'll see.
