Woo hoo! 2 miles down! 148 left to go!

Because we lost Jordan to his battle with cancer, my family has pulled together to raise money for the Haven House. They are this amazing house in St. Louis where families and cancer patients basically live while they are going through treatments away from home. This place was like a second home, a second family. So, my family feels that they owe this place so much and this place deserves much more than what they receive. These are the selfless people who give their time and love and devotion to people who really desperately need it. I cannot talk nice enough about these people.
So, in addition to a scholarship and the donations raised at Jordan's funeral, there is now a Journey for Jordan campaign that is sweeping through central part of the state. I would love for this movement to gain more exposure but for now, it is a benefit that involves my family, our friends and the community that was a part of Jordan's life. We will be riding our bikes from Jordan's home to the Haven House in St. Louis. That is almost 150 miles! That's crazy! But, 70 miles the first day. 50 miles the next. And about 35 the last day. My dad, my sister, my stepmom and I are all doing it although I'm not sure how excited I am to ride my bike that far. I'm not in that great of shape. I'm not bad but I'm not marathon worthy either. I have until end of June. Thankfully, this also works wonders for my August goal.
Despite the fact that I did not go out bike riding this weekend when it was gorgeous on Sunday, I rode around my neighborhood in a sprint. 1.98 miles around the large portion of our neighborhood community. That's a great start. I would love to ride to my dad's house on Wednesday and that is 5 miles. But that is not necessarily safe either. The bridge we have to cross is so narrow for even two cars. Adding in bikes is terrifying. I remember that bridge when walking home from school!
But, it is a work in progress.
I look forward to the challenge. I can already feel my pants getting looser and my body getting into shape! Ha!
But, it is a start.
And I have fantastic support. And I've always loved riding my bike. If I was living downstate, I would be more motivated. But, I am okay. I feel great after 2 miles. I worked hard. I didn't coast around. I pushed myself. I went the long way. And I am not that winded. I'd like to break my time down but I'm only a couple minutes over my sister's time. And she's always been the more athletic one.
Woo hoo.
