So many things I wish to discuss! I want to briefly talk about two fannish topics of interest to me: RPF and chromatic characters (especially chromatic women characters). Also in action is my abuse of parentheticals.
I believe the last time I spoke publicly about race in fandom was during RaceFail last year, and the fallout was a bit unpleasant. I've mentioned a few times since then in locked posts how my interest has sort of turned towards a more inclusive fannish space that embraces chromatic characters. Often this has meant engaging with a very small audience. And look, I've mostly made peace with this fact; I've accepted that the majority of fandom has no interest in writing about characters that aren't white. It's that, or the fandoms which hold my interest aren't shared by other people. I like Being Human and The Losers and Leverage and Southland (no, I love this show!) and Star Trek, and many others where there's at least one chromatic character that's part of the main cast, but I have no interest in writing it (yet! I'm hoping to change that wrt Southland in the near future). And as I stated earlier, I'm really into RPF these days. Or Disney movies. Whatever.
So, yeah. That happened. I want to read fic about non-white celebrities and there's just so little of it. And femslash about non-white women? KINDA NON-EXISTENT. Which makes me want it all the more. I'm just... I'm tired of reading about white people all the time. It's really frustrating being part of fandom when it currently has very little to offer. So, one of the obvious answers to my dilemma is to write what I want to see. And I hear you. Glancing at my fic tag indicates that within the last year, all of my RPF stories have featured chromatic characters in f/f and m/m relationships. Some other time I will lament further about my limited fic output, but I've also discovered two challenges that will address that problem as well.

dark_agenda is holding a
Racebending Revenge Ficathon (more info at the link provided). I haven't officially signed up, but I think it's pretty much settled that if I were to participate I'd write my
chromatic version of Farscape. I have a cool idea set in season four when Crichton visited Earth forreals, and how that visit would go a bit differently if both Crichton and Aeryn were not white. With oblig angsty sex, which would STILL be hot, btw. I think it could be so much fun to write, with a healthy dose of fear of FUCKING THINGS UP. See white fans, you're not the only ones dealing with this fear!
+ Then there's
rpf_big_bang, which I did actually sign up for. Up until recently, I couldn't decide between Farscape RPF, or hip-hop RPF, or miscellaneous celebs. And, well... thanks to this pic I think you can see where I'm going with this:
In conclusion, REGINA KING MAKES EVERYTHING RIGHT IN THE WORLD. And so does Tiana/Naveen. Good day sirs and ma'ams.
In completely unrelated music news, can I just say how awesome The Roots' How I Got Over and Sia's We Are Born both are? Because they totally are. I can upload if there's interest. LMK.
