Yuletide Letter 2008
Dear Yuletide author:
Hey there! Thank you for signing up for yuletide this year. It's likely you don't know me and have probably never heard of me since I tend to hang out in the Farscape fandom while dabbling in the Stargates. I've been in fandom since 2005 and this is my second year participating in Yuletide. I love fics that include angst with a bit of humor and realistic sex. Plot is awesome but not necessary. I prefer het or gen, but depending on the fandom I also enjoy both types of slash. Also, here's the thing - I love female characters. I realize not everyone does, and if you, dear author, happen to be one of those people, I'd be appreciative of any effort you make to include a female character.
Now, on to my requests:
Request 1: RPF - Stargate SG-1
In my request I asked for Ben Browder/Claudia Black - about why it's so effortless for them to portray lovers on-screen. Honestly, I would love something with humor and irreverence, and a lack of personal space for those involved. Keep it strictly platonic if you wish, or you can take it as far as you're comfortable with. These two are friends above all else, so play with the details and blur the lines.
Request 2: Scream (movie)
So, I originally chose Scream at the behest of a good friend, but I love this trilogy! I know that I specifically asked for some interaction between Dewey Riley and Gale Weathers, but by all means don't feel obligated to only write about them. Include as many characters from the movies as you'd like; play around with the various relationships or scenes. However, if you do choose to write about Gale and Dewey, explore their tumultuous relationship, the stops and starts and what continually drew them to one another despite it not working out before the third film. I love Gale's banter and one-liners, and how her acerbic wit balances Dewey's vulnerability. They're both incredibly brave in their own ways. Facets of the horror genre would also be lovely.
Request 3: RPF - Hip hop
To take from my original request - any characters depicting life on the road/on tour and the realization of a crush. Hip hop RPF is a broad category, not to mention a new addition to yuletide. Please have fun with this! I'll be happy with het, slash, threesomes or gen. I'm particularly interested in seeing characters that don't typically interact brought together to see what happens. When I think of this category of RPF, I visualize hip hop heads doing an event and meeting for the first time, or being genuine fans of one another, saying slightly inappropriate things about each other during interviews. Whatever the case, I'd like it to include some fluff, nothing too serious, and a little on the hot side if you choose to write ship.
Request 4: Living Single
So, Living Single was a sitcom that aired from 1993-98 and it was literally the black version of Friends, except it was set in Brooklyn, and showed a truer reflection of New York. The first season is available on DVD and the show is currently airing in syndication on the Oxygen channel. Living Single was hilarious and often poignant, though I honestly like to pretend the last season didn't happen. Anyway, this show was about the varying relationships between Khadijah, Max, Regine, Synclaire, Overton and Kyle. I'd love any fic about how these characters related to one another, how they interacted in their daily lives. However you see fit to explore the themes of hilarity, unresolved feelings, drunken confessions or relationship angst would be absolutely wonderful.
I'm interested in stories with: snarky banter, laughter, lack of personal space, intimacy, awkward moments, lust, drunken confessions, groping, multi-positional realistic sex, long and deep kisses, personality clashes, angst, hurt/comfort, non-traditional gender roles, longing, teasing and love.
Not so interested in: rape, incest, character bashing, humiliation, character death and love triangles.
