I am wondering what's with the whole "Cinder" business? I keep seeing the cover popping out all around YA websites, and today at the bookstore they had it EVERYWHERE - apparently, the author is having a book signing there in two weeks. The question is, is this piece of literature worthy of my hard-earned pennies and my precious time?
I had decided against reading it before when I learned it's about a cyborg - I had trouble bringing myself to read "The Hunger Games" once I knew it's a dystopia, but even though the latter had softened my heart toward this particular genre, I still prefer corsets over robots. Besides, from the first glance the resemblance of "Cinder" to "Twilight" made me wary. It got even worse once I saw that the author's last name is Meyer - I mean, really? It all looks like one big (and, I must admit, potentially successful) attempt to re-create the glory of "The Twilight Saga", and the least thing I want to spend my money on is some unoriginal story about a robot girl and futuristic romance.
But - dammit! - it DOES make me curious!
Alrighty, so today I made a trip to buy more books. "I can never get enough." (c) Will Herondale. I've settled on spending my best Christmas present (i.e. a $25 giftcard to Chapters) on the first two books of "The Agency" series. A detective story set in the 19th century London with a teenage girl as the main protagonist - it is surely to be a success, in my book! I got quite excited yesterday when I discovered these books while browsing for the new YA releases. I am currently a little over a hundred pages in, and I am not disappointed - the story is quite interesting, there are some very funny parts, and I love the idea of the all-girl detective agency. It is sure a book to keep me up at night ;)
