So. For anyone who cares, I'm going to describe my first day at work. Don't I feel all special and grown-up and productive? -snort-
My feet already hurt, and I'm starving. However, I shall eventually be paid, and thus it was worth it. And it really wasn't that bad. I just need to remember not to throw on the wooden-soled shoes to stand on my feet all day, particularly if they're four or more years old and as such have little padding separating my feet from said wooden soles.
Ahem. I didn't really do much today, though I was constantly moving. That might be another part of my lethargy...or perhaps it was the fact that a burst of hyperness hit me when I needed to go to bed (midnight) and even AFTER I stopped giddily chattering with Levi on AIM and was in bed---lights off and everything--- I stared at the ceiling until somewhere between 2:30 and 3:30. And was back up at 6:30....
-realizes just how little sleep she had- Holy shit. No wonder I'm tired. xD It all makes sense now. =P
In any case, I spent all day in the copier room making copies and punching lots and lots of holes for binding. And I mean all day. They had to tell me to go eat lunch, 'cause I'd forgotten. I went through, easily, four packs or more of the paper, cause my boss wanted thirty copies of the book we're giving the kids, which has about 100 pages or more in it. xD A LOT of copying. Which, it would have been easier, I suppose, if I could have just run the whole book through the copier, but I couldn't do that. I had to do it in sections, as there would occasionally be a piece that required me to switch to the color copier, or needed to be removed from the book, and stuff like that. I haven't even made the books yet, and I was there from 8:30 until 4:45. xD I had just barely finished making all the copies, as I had to stop somewhere around 4-ish for a while when one of the office ladies came in and told me the copier was too hot.
Um. Yeah, I suppose it was. You'd go out of the room for a sip of water from the fountain or when I had gone for lunch, then come back in and you could just _feel_ the heat exuding from the machines. I wouldn't have been surprised if I had melted a toner cartridge or something. xD But to make things worse, it wasn't just me doing a ton of copying. One of the other facilitators (undergrad/grad student aides) was having to do the same thing, or something similar. So we were both killing the copier.
But yeah. I'm starved. I didn't eat breakfast (imagine that!) and didn't eat much of my lunch. I went to a Chinese takeout place I'd found when trying to find something in that section of downtown, and it wasn't that good. Or I wasn't that hungry. I dunno. THe noodles weren't bad, and the soup was okay, but they didn't have the General Tso's they advertised and I thus ate sweet-and-sour chicken, and their sweet-and-sour sauce was nasty. Oh. And my diet pepsi was almost a month out-of-date, or so said the sell date on the bottle once I realized it. So. Yeah. Hungry Kitty who will probably not eat there again unless she's desperate for cheap egg drop soup, which she has been known to be before. I'm right at Five Points though, so I'll venture farther either tomorrow or Friday and see what I can find. I know there's a Quizno's not too far from there, and I adore Quizno's in terms of sub-type sandwiches. Firehouse is really good, too, but there's not one of those about. I'll figure something out. And if nothing else, there's still Purple Onion/Al's if I feel like walking that far, complete with their crack in their seasoned salt. xD
Not like it matters. I'll be out in the middle of Birmingham wilderness (Hah! xD ) for the next few weeks anyway. Packed lunch and bad tanline city, here I come with arms outstretched! xDD I talked with my boss for a while this morning though on stuff we'll do with the kids, and a lot of it sounded both interesting and fun. If nothing else, the water quality testing lesson (which I'm apparently going to help head oO;)should bring back nostalgia. Remember how to use a Secchi disk, Licki? xD Or a D-net? =P
Anyway. Going out to the camp tomorrow with the boss and another teacher to meet the boy scout camp leader who, according to Taylor-boss, is an old fogey set in his ways and might be a bit...interesting to talk to. As such, I'll keep my mouth shut if I can help it.
And now, as I _am_ starved, I'm getting off LJ to figure out the status of Grandmum's cooking.
Ta! (Yes. I did just say that.)
