My Life is Copyrighted

“You own everything that happened to you. Tell your stories. If people wanted you to write warmly about them, they should have behaved better.”
Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life

This is my number one favorite quote of all time. In my humble opinion, It should be used as a guideline for anyone that wants to write a memoire of their life, as I do. Because I'm fledgling writer (I have been for many years) I want to tell my stories of my trials and tribulations, that are, in fairness, partly of my own doing. However, most of my manuscripts are either ritually burned, tossed in the trash bin, or discarded to wind up somewhere in Narnia, I'm sure. I decided to stop that nonsense and just do it; just bite the bullet and get it out of my system. I want to stop editing myself for others’ comfort, especially after threats of lawsuits. I’m not a scared, little girl. I’m not able to be bullied into submission anymore. Writing has been a persistent strand in my life’s fabric. Now that I have the tools to pursue what has been gnawing at my psyche since I was a young teenager, I’m not going to let go.
