jet lag, can't sleep

it's 5AM right now- been up since 4AM. Had a dream about work that woke me up....lame.

We had a blast in Italy. By the second to last day I was ready to come home and experience the American conveniences that I missed so much. For some strange reason I was craving BIG GULPS from 7/11 while in Italy. I also really missed the service oriented nature of California. Since Italians have their service included in their meals/and even a cover charge some of the small restaurants we went to had such terrible service. Seemed that the more fancy/family oriented restaurants we went to had much better service though..

Food Highlights of the trip:

-their creamy, silky light cheesecake- was ricotta and marscapone based. Their crust is really good too...not too sweet just perfect. Topped with raspberries and strawberries.

-the biscotti. we have had tons! they give us glasses of vin santo to dunk them in (yum!) sometimes i would dunk them in my cappuccino foam too!

-pepperonata (sauteed peppers & onions with TONS of oil)

-peaches soaked in sweet white wine with mint leaves (holy shit that was good)

-cappucinos- i am in love with them! Casey LOVES them too....which is really exciting because he is not normally a coffee drinker...and now he is turning into one! We would get one almost every morning with a donut or pastry before we went off on our way.

-their simplicity in roasting meats & veggies. I had these great grilled lamb chops with lemon and rosemary. They had roasted CRISPY potatoes with it! yum.

-caprese salads...with REAL buffalo mozzarella. I watched this show on the food network about buffalo mozzarella before i left....apparently there is only 1 ranch in the US that actually makes it from buffalo milk. you can really taste the difference....sooooo creamy.

-arugula with parmesan salads (slices of bresola) and a lemon oil vinegarette.

-we had a great salad that had tomatoes, sliced parmesan, pine nuts, avocado and small slices of hearts of romaine. (lemon/oil vinagerette)

-thin crust pizza with slices of eggplant on top.....eaten with a fork and knife-served whole.

-the fried pizza dough with salt

-fried zucchini blossoms

(this is making me hungry)

more soon.
