Week 22Day5: bubblewrap and tethers...

Mar 07, 2012 17:33

A friend posted on Facebook about how while under his parent's supervision, his 3 y.o. decided to leave the house on his own to head to the park that's 1 mile away (crossing a major street- Millbrae ave). The house was locked down like fort knox (special childlocks, alarmed doors etc), but the kid managed to circumvent it all by taking the garage door opener from the car, opening the garage door, head out, close the garage door and went on his merry way.

My friend's poor mom was in tears when she couldn't find the kid. She had literally only just left him alone for 5 mins. Somehow they figured out the kid was not inside the house and went looking for him. By the time they found the kid it was at least 50mims later.

The kid was having fun and only started crying when his grandma ran up to him in tears.

So there I was, reading this and crying at my home. I was crying because I was thinking about what I would do in such a situation and how I likely would not have been able to handle such a situation with any grace whatsoever. Seriously folks, when my kid starts walking, I'm bubble-wrapping him and tethering him to me at ALL TIMES!!
