Yeah, you know you're not young anymore when you can't stay up late without it totally throwing you the next day. :P
Last night, I stayed up until 4am reading the last of the Hunger Games books that Jon got me for Valentine's day. I had originally refused to read them in protest since I figured he had really gotten the books for himself :P Then I got really serious food poisoning last Saturday and was in bed with the fever and recuperating for 2 days. Bored, I finally dug into the books.
Jon was already on the last half of book 3. I began reading book 1 on Sunday. Last night I came home late from work and was determined to start reading book 3. By 10pm, Jon went off to sleep, I kept my bedside light on and kept reading. by 10:30 Jon started whining "gooo to sleeeeep". "sorrie!! sorrie!" I turned off the light and snuck down to the Den. Snuggled in a blanket with a low light on, I kept reading.
Then at midnite, I heard clicking noise on the landing. Stella had realized I was not in bed with them, so she had come searching for me. She stuck her head through the door, jumped on the sofa and gave me a disapproving look.
"okay okay, just one more chapter then I'll go to sleep, okay?"I tell Stella softly. then went back to read as she settled in next to me.
At 2am, she got up, huffed a sigh and went back to the bed and began nudging Jon.
From the bedroom I hear Jon: Mcgeeeeee, why is dog whining?
"sorrie!! Sorrie!!" I ran back to the bedroom and spoke quietly to Stella. "I'm sorry I kept you up, I swear, just one more chapter, why don't you stay here with daddy, k?" and I snuck back into the den.
5 mins later, she came back down, gave me another disapproving look, huffed and snuggled next to me. I kept reading. finally at 4am, I was done. The ending was so disappointing I got a little mad at myself for staying up.
Got up to head up to the bedroom, but Stella wouldn't budge as if saying "you'll just come back anyways...." So I picked her up and went back to the bed with her. Settled her down and slip under the covers. Stella looked over from the end of the bed to make sure I've laid down my head before she collapsed her head onto the bed. Jon mumbled something and rolled over.
At 5am, Jon got up to begin his marathon conference calls with the East Coast. I tried to get up, but fell back to sleep. Finally at 6:30 I dragged myself out to hit the showers so I can get to work in time.
Now, I'm sitting here, sipping my coffee slowly to wake my mind up. Feels like crap, but in a way, I'm grinning like an idiot because I hadn't done something this silly since I was a teenager hiding under the covers with a flashlight reading my books into the night.
