WHY the *#$^ are we having a "massive victory" for Republicans?!?! Did the majority of Americans think things were done RIGHT in the past 4 years???? I find that incredibly hard to believe. Maybe I just give people too much credit for intelligence. I haven't even followed politics all that closely until recently, but I am STILL aware of the following six things:
1. Bush lied about WMDs being in Iraq to serve his own interests. There was absolutely no connection in Iraq to Al-Qaeda or anyone who was involved in September 11th, and no real evidence that there were WMDs there. We went to war on a suspicion. We weren't being attacked or directly threatened. It was not an act of defense. Saddam had been committing atrocities in Iraq for years upon years, and then we suddenly decide to liberate the Iraqi people when they never ASKED FOR or WANTED our help?! All Bush's justifications that he's given are utter bullshit. He just WANTED to storm Iraq. Which means all these American soldiers are dying, and many more Iraqi civilians are being killed and their lives devastated, for no fucking reason.
2. Our civil liberties are being violated by his Patriot Act. People can be arrested and questioned simply for saying bad things about the administration. (OMG! Maybe they're commies!!! Are we moving fucking BACKWARDS??)
3. Bush wants to put an amendment in the Constitution that ENFORCES DISCRIMINATION against a minority group. (by denying gays the right to marry when they are in long-term committed relationships, thereby relegating them to second-class citizens) Are we going to go back to slavery now too?! Might as well just bring old Jim Crow back too...
4. Bush doesn't give a flying fuck through a donut about the environment. Oil and big industry are much more important to him. (cha-ching) He's been a busy little bastard rolling back protection of our national park and forests, trying to weaken our anti-pollution acts, and rabidly going after drilling in ANWR when we could completely end our dependence on oil by developing alternative energy and technologies like hybrid cars (that has existed for years but no one will fund to develop). He probably would go out shooting California condors in his spare time if he could.
5. Bush is anti-abortion (ok, so am I) but he's going about it for all the wrong reasons and all the wrong ways. He's motivated by Christian beliefs. Hello, SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE. NOT EVERYONE IN THIS COUNTRY HAS CHRISTIAN VALUES. NOT EVERYONE EVEN BELIEVES IN GOD. We do not want his religious beliefs forced on all of us or used to make political decisions. And he's been cutting funding to third-world countries for family planning programs (which also provide contraception, education about STDs, etc...) because they offer abortion consultation. He's advancing abstinence as the solution. Great, except abstinence DOESNT WORK most of the time. Teach kids not to have sex, tons of them are gonna do it anyway and they might at least be safe when they do.
6. He's a fricking chimp. OK? When he talks he sounds like a blithering idiot. I don't know if we've ever had a stupider President or one that is more hated by other countries. Kerry at least sounded intelligent and brought up specific DETAILS in the debates. Bush spoke in constant generalizations and was basically saying: "Blah blah blah I know what I'm doing blah blah blah I'm awesome and I just want to keep tooting my own little horn and ignore what the entire rest of the world is saying blah blah blah...Kerry flip flops, Kerry flip flops, Kerry can't make up his mind, blah blah blah I am God."
7. He has made the rest of the world hate us. American is a dirty word pretty much no matter where you go. It's not fair, it's because of the actions of a President who didn't even win the popular vote. Who the American public didn't even elect.
I'll probably add more to this later. But WHAT IS WRONG with the American people?? If Bush wins I will have very little faith in this country ever again. We don't learn.
