Omg...
...I'm devastated. I can't believe what happened yesterday.
Our three budgies, Tom, Dick and Harry, were settling in really well and yesterday we decided to let them out for a fly about. They were doing really well and spent most of the time sat on top of their cage and just flew around every now and again. I had all the windows and doors shut so they couldn't escape.
Then the blue budgie, the nicest tamest one, decided to fly straight up the open plan stairs we have in the middle of the living room. It went straight up them without stopping, round the corner, into the bathroom (where I'd just accidentally left the window and door open) and out of the window. I ran after him so quick and tried to grab him so many times but there was no stopping him. It was like he knew the window was there and that it was open. He didn't even look back.
I was so sad. He was the nicest budgie as well. I can't believe he managed to find the smallest window in the whole house and the only window id left open.
Anyway, we decided then that the other two budgies were going to be lonely. The other two didnt really get one with each other anyway and used to fight for the attention of the blue one so we were planning on getting a 4th anyway. Then when the blue one flew away I decided that we'd get more straight away. I hopped on a bus to Lancaster (and stood at the bus stop convinced that I could here the budgie in the trees just behind me) and bought 4 more budgies.
The new ones are gorgeous and lovely bright colours and now we have 6 so there is a nice even number and no one will get left out. They are getting along really and the cage they are in is sooooo big that we could still probably fit another 10 budgies in there. I don't think we'll be getting any more though. I can't wait to let these all out to fly today but now I'm scared. At least we can say we won't be making the same mistake again.
I want to get to the point where the cage door can be constantly left open and they can just come in and out when they want and we can just shut them in at night. I also want them to be a bit more tame. They're all only babies though so it shouldn't be too hard.
I also need to think of 6 names for them all now and Tom, Dick and Harry seems stupid now there are 6.
