So, the hardcore continues...
I mentioned hiking Perseverence Trail (I totally spelled it wrong in that entry) and being way sore, so the next day we weren't very hardcore. Lauren and I went on some errands and then went to dinner at the home of some friends of Lauren's family. During this time, Shalom invited us to go camping with her, Devon's sister Erin, and some other people. Lauren and I decided it would be a great idea and Dick agreed to join us as well. James decided to stay in because he had to work the next morning.
We gathered the necessary things, including sleeping bags, snacks, and rum, then we headed out to a beach to join the others. There was a rather large group and they had a 12x12 tent which was rather enormous. When we first arrived we didn't know there was a real trail leading down, so we ended up tramping through trees in a rather awkward procession. We finally made it by following Erin's voice and then we started drinking rum and talking. There were also marshmallows to roast and other s'more fixings. Delicious! The view was absolutely gorgeous, there were snow covered mountains on the other side of a stretch of ocean as we sat on rocks with trees and brush behind us. Anyway, the general night went like this: Dick and I passing around the bottle of rum, lots of fun conversations, playing with fire, eating s'mores, and being generally awesome. I bonded with Dick a lot, we found plenty to talk about and I think we get along quite well. I don't think there will ever be an extended period of time with complete seriousness because neither of us can keep from making some sarcastic comment or another. Anyway, after a while, most of the people went inside to play pictionary and Dick, Lauren, and I decided we should leave. Lauren hadn't been drinking so she drove home, having Dick stash her paraphenalia for the drive.
Once we got home we headed inside and discovered a shirtless James getting ready for bed. We thought it would be a good idea to harrass him instead of allowing him to sleep. We had to show him the shot and note we had left for him on the table, it was a single shot of rum with a note saying: "Remember the pact! We'll miss you! <3 the other H-1ers. PS Don't do drugs. PPS the toilet has been overflowing." He hadn't seen it when he got home, drunk, after debauching with his boss. He was apparently too drunk to take it then so Dick took it and then we harrassed James in bed, trying to convince him not to go to bed, that he had plenty of time before he had to be at work, and that we should watch more Weeds. Eventually we all decided to go to bed, which we did, and all of our rooms smell like campfire.
This morning Lauren got a call from her mom talking about a number of things, but one of the things mentioned was that Luke had discovered her paraphenalia and it led to a bit of a lecture on behavior and such things. Once that was over with we went to Costco to get some groceries and while there we also managed to stock our liquor cabinet. We now own the following things: Handles of; Smirnoff Vodka, Bacardi Rum, Jim Beam Whiskey, and Tanqueray Gin. We also now have bottles the following; Kahlua, Bailey's, and Triple Sec. On top of this, we bought Alaskan Amber Ale. We now have a stocked bar for the cocktail party!
After this trip we were being lazy and decided to head out to Sandy Beach. We stopped at her ex-step-dad's house first to pick up a lamp and pet some dogs, but when we got to Sandy beach we parked and headed down. We were climbing down this rocky part in flip flops (Lauren and I had flip flops at least) and she made it down just fine but I lost my shoe and slipped and fell on the rocks, scraping my shins and one arm and accumulating a few bruises as well. Ouch. I did tear up a little, but I'm hardcore, so we continued. We laid out the blanket and read or napped for an hour or so in the "warm" Alaska weather. There were people in shorts and tanks, children in bathing suits, and people wading in the water. It couldn't have been more than mid sixties and there was a breeze. I put on a sweater. Alaskans are hardcore. When we were heading out we discovered the Chalmers clan and Dani and chatted with them for a while before heading back to the house.
Now I am cooking dinner and Dick just fixed the toilet, James is at work and Lauren upstairs, I mentioned feeling like we were playing house, doing these typical household duties like grown-ups and Dick commented that we were like an old married couple... and here we are sitting at our laptops typing or whatnot... it's amusing to me.
Anyway, the hardcore adventures will continue, and pictures will be posted soon. Probably on facebook.
