I just wanted to share that I finished my referat that is, to me, a joke when compared to the referat I will be giving a week afterward.
Because it is such a joke, I kind of made it one, my speech is about Arbor Day.
I give a brief history of Arbor Day (and well, the actual history itself is pretty short), and I describe how and by whom Arbor day is celebrated.
I was really tempted to write, "Arbor day is mostly celebrated in schools, by environmental groups, and bleeding heart liberals," but I didn't know how to say bleeding heart liberals in German. Besides, I am sort of a bleeding heart liberal myself and might actually do something tree related next year so I can't make fun of it too much... so I was a little inspired.
My favorite line in the speech is as follows (a translation): "There is no traditional food, but in America we have cookies that look like the symbols of every Holiday."
I really hope at least a few people find this as funny as I do... or at all.
I think I may make a really corny powerpoint presentation to go along with it... extra points, anyone?
Alex says that if I make cookies, I'll make more extra points.
Unfortunately I don't have time for such domestic frivolity.
I have to start really working on my REAL referat tomorrow... and unlike this one it isn't translating English to 5th grade level German... I have to be intelligent.
