OTH Fic Recs List
I am no longer updating this rec list. It is complete as of 06/08. This is only a sampling of the many good OTH fics out there -- only a start to help those new to the fandom or unable to find any decent fic. So, it by no means includes every great fic out there that I enjoy.
Nearly all of these will be Nathan/Haley fanfics (because I love them so) but you might see just a few general or UC fics in here as well. Maybe.
Also, I'm separating the fanfics by completed chapter fics, one-parters, and WIPs because that's how I prefer it. In those three categories, fics will be sorted in alphabetical order. The format used in this list is credited to the lovely kashmir1.
Just about all links should come from three different fanfiction sites: Fanfiction.net, They Can Watch.com, or The Rivercourt. Some of the older ones though come from One Tree Hill Central. The Rivercourt is the only site where you must register to view any fanfiction.
The three main sites use different rating systems, and the ratings on this list will match the one given at the site which the story is hosted. I'm sorry if this confuses you, but that's the way I'm doing it right now. I may change it in the future but until then, I've provided links to the ratings guide for each site for your own convenience:

The summaries that I've posted may have also been taken from the above mentioned sites, or they're the ones posted by the authors themselves, and in the cases in which there weren't any...I substituted my own sorry summary instead.
And please report any broken links or other mistakes. I'll be happy to try and fix them if I'm able to.
All of these are fics I have enjoyed reading, and I really hope you do too. I want to thank all of the fanfic writers, because without them we wouldn't have such great fanfiction and I wouldn't be making this list at all. Once again, I'd like to note that there are plenty of other wonderful authors and fanfics out there that are not on this list.

Summary: Haley and Riley have always been best friends. One summer, Riley's cousin Nathan comes to stay and his arrival is just the start of Haley's world being turned upside down.
Sug Says: The reason I love this story is because it's just so accurate in its portrayal of the way people act and the reasons (or lack of reasons) why they act in a certain way. The story will keep you guessing and you're bound to relate to any one of the characters in some way.
Quote: I had always liked having control in my life. But there was something about the way Nathan made me feel out of control that I liked. It was just too exhilarating for me to pass up.

Title: Baby Blessed

Summary: Nathan and Haley have been separated for years following the death of their young son. When Nathan is finally ready to move on with his life, he must ask her for a divorce. But in order to reach her, he must travel all the way to Africa where Haley has been working at a hospital for the past two years. With violence and unrest tearing apart the country where Haley works, Nathan and Haley reunite in the midst of a local conflict. Luckily, they survive but what will happen when they must return to the United States and face the consequences of their actions in Africa?
Sug Says: So angsty but oh-so-very-good. It is a long, hard, and painful journey for these two to find their way back to each other but it is so worth the wait.
Quote:"Now didn't seem the time to tell her how sorry he was about Cameron, or mention how badly he'd failed them both. He'd assumed getting the divorce was a formality. All that was required of him was his signature. No one had told him it was like having his arms torn off and that it would leave him feeling as if he were sitting on a pile of rotting garbage. Sug Says: One of Whitney's first fics and thus a N/H classic and AU must-read. A very hot and tumultuous relationship that you won't be able to get enough of.
Quote: "She knew this was insane. It was like someone had possessed her body, and someone had possessed him. Because the cold hard truth was they didn't like each other. It wasn't hidden lust or long lost crushes. Over the years they had formed a general dislike for one another, and now they were making out in his old bedroom.

Sug Says: The beginning of S1 is always an interesting time period for Nathan/Haley with their relationship still so fragile and new. Annie shows us just how those two could have ended up discovering their feelings for one another in a completely different yet realistic way. Her characterizations are superb.
Quote: "She should have seen it coming. Hindsight is twenty/twenty and all that, and the signs had been flashing neon greens and purples at her from the very beginning. But she missed it. He’d smiled at her and made her feel something, and she’d just plain missed it.

Sug Says: One of the best N/H fanfics of all time IMO. This is quite the nice, long and romantic fanfic. It's very cute and sweet and the author is able to show both the good and the bad that comes with being in a relationship.

Title: Perfect Marriage? Or is it?

Summary: To everyone else, Nathan and Haley seem to have a perfect marriage. What happens when it all falls apart?
Sug Says: Only read this fic if you're prepared to bawl your freakin' eyes out. This is a fic where you might really hate some parts, especially in the beginning, but eventually you'll see how the author's painted a realistic and heart-breaking story that will leave you satisfied at the end.
Quote: She hadn’t seen Nathan for weeks. She told herself that she was learning to live without him, making a new life for herself. But they were empty assurances. All the time that she was keeping herself busy and interested, talking and walking and working, she felt like a hollow puppet. Her mind jerked the strings and made her appear lifelike, but inside there was a gaping hole where her heart used to be.

Sug Says: A great fic written by an author who really understands the characters. This is a route I would've loved to see the show take in regards to the whole Haley and music tour storyline.

Sug Says: The whole idea of bad guy taking the bet to bag the virgin is one we've seen before, but Whitney goes beyond that and adds her own little twist. She's created quite the AU world and you'll enjoy reading the interaction not only between Nathan and Haley but the other characters as well and seeing how they all grow and learn.
Quote: "All he had to do was be nice to this girl, smile at her some more, and maybe befriend Karen a bit- he would be in in no time. He was about to thaw the ice with miss Haley James- he was about to burn the building down, and it would be fun. She would be fun."

Sug Says: This story has one of the best characterizations of the couple, but especially Nathan I'd say. It is one of my favorite 'N/H meet-in-college fics' and a definite classic and must-read for any N/H fan.

However, the author's writing is fantastic and she's got such a great grasp on the characters. This is definitely a worth-while read.

Sug Says: Fun, flirty, sexy, sweet, and hilarious! I'm not always a fan of fics with Nathan and Haley with a newborn baby, but I found this fic to be thoroughly enjoyable!

The summer after her freshman year of college she promises herself she won’t waste it, promises that she’ll try. So when she meets a girl named Brooke, who is in every way her exact counterpart, and is invited to stay with her and her two friends in a town called Tree Hill, she doesn’t hesitate. She meets Brooke’s friends, Lucas and Nathan, and immediately forms deep but complicated bond with each of them, getting sucked into the world of three inseparable friends, whose love for each other is filled with history, regret, and pain.
Sug Says: This is angst at its finest. This story is honestly one of the most beautifully tragic things I've ever read in my entire life. It's a heart-breaking story about love, loss, friendship, and pain.
Quote: "Somehow in those brief but seemingly boundless months, each of us had had found love, lost love, and in the process had forfeited who we arrived as in favor of winning back the people we knew that we could be."

Sug Says: This fic is absolutely perfect especially with the throwbacks to S1. A must-read of cute, fun, flirty, sexy, totally in lust and in love and married Nathan and Haley!
Quote: “Is that your jumpshot,” a voice teased from the direction of the parking lot. “Because if it is, I can't date you anymore.”
Feeling his day had suddenly brightened, Nathan turned to face his visitor, ball in hand.

She truly understands the importance of details, a good plot, continuity - everything that makes a good story great.

Also, I'm separating the fanfics by completed chapter fics, one-parters, and WIPs because that's how I prefer it. In those three categories, fics will be sorted in alphabetical order. The format used in this list is credited to the lovely kashmir1.
Just about all links should come from three different fanfiction sites: Fanfiction.net, They Can Watch.com, or The Rivercourt. Some of the older ones though come from One Tree Hill Central. The Rivercourt is the only site where you must register to view any fanfiction.
The three main sites use different rating systems, and the ratings on this list will match the one given at the site which the story is hosted.
