1. Keeping a job I don't entirely hate!
2. Singing in a band, a dream I was pretty sure wouldn't happen.
3. Seeing Mom and Mister Boobers often and NOT fighting with them!
4. Finding a hair style that I adore and that isn't crazy huge.
5. Ryan Szeszycki, despite everything I've whined about.
6. Still living in Chicago and NOT being poor! Well, being poor BUT NOT AS POOR AS I THOUGHT!
7. Being able, in some small way, to keep up with my art, especially the stuff I do at work
8. Being in a city where people visit so often! McCarry's been here THREE TIMES, so he's the winner of this one.
9. Moving in with 13 year-old boy in a 25 year-old woman's body, Sarah Yootzl. While still having my old roomie down the street.
10. My tattoo. Best thing I've ever done with my mother.
I'm getting another tattoo, toooo. A muted post-horn to convey visually my crazy love for The Crying of Lot 49. On my left wrist.
1. Jay Reatard, Blood Visions (I WILL MARRY THIS MAN)
2. Marnie Stern This Is It and I Am It and You Are It and So Is That and He Is It and She Is It and It is It and That Is That (Kitten-voiced Guitar Goddess!)
3. Portishead, Third (Winter's perfect soundtrack)
4. Girl Talk, Feed The Animals (At first I didn't think so, but now it's better in my mind than Night Ripper)
5. Radiohead, In Rainbows (My second favorite Radiohead album)
6. Fantomas, Fantomas (this didn't come out this year, but Ryan and Justin made me listen to it and I fell in love with it)
7. Ratatat, LP3 (mmmmmmmmgood)
8. Black Moth Super Rainbow, Dandelion Gum (Justin saw these guys live and I stole the album from him and it puts me to sleep on the train.)
9. Liars, Liars (Music never scared me until I found this album)
10. Vampire Weeekend, Vampire Weekend (So Collegiate!)
11. Daft Punk, Alive 2007 (this is up for two Grammys...GET 'EM!)
12. Deerhunter, Microcastle and Atlas Sound, Let The Blind Lead Those That Can See But Cannot Feel (both are albums sung by Bradford Cox, and both are beautiful.)
New Year's Eve was lovely! Annie Toft had a party, and completely fulfilled my 2 requirements: 1. Get Drunk, 2. Dance. She let me use my iPod and I drank a crazy amount of cognac with David Allen. In between dancing, we called Matt Kerchner and told him we'd have a 4-way with him (and something about Grover Cleveland), apparently I fell asleep in the hallway standing up, and I got smooched by a boy.
New Year's Day was also pretty great: Ryan and I nursed our hangovers, watched the Blackhawks game and ate Itallian Beef, then we found Justin and saw Frost/Nixon, which was pretty boss, Mr. Howard. And we practiced and I went to bed at a semi-reasonable hour (cuz I worked today. I've done next to nothing).
And tonight, we have a show! It's at some bar that I've never been to, but I think we're gonna rock some serious house, now that I know where both members of my band are.
Check out our flyer! I hope your New Year's events were also lovely. Here's to another awesome year! Clink!
