BSG S3 Premiere Part 1 - comments

Yay! Finally watched part 1 of the BSG season premiere - my husband needs a break before watching part 2, so come to post my thoughts.  Spoilers obviously, under the cut.

Comments on Part 1

New Caprica - life under the occupation very well depicted, very grim, although some back story not clear, though that maybe because I haven't seen the webisodes...for example I realised eventually that the suicide bomber guy was one of the pilots on Galactica, but we seemed to be supposed to know about this girlfriend of his who had died, and I didn't, so his death didn't have a lot of impact on me. And who was the other guy who's joined the police force?

No surprise that the inside spy was Gaeta, he was the logical candidate, that's why I gave him that role in my current fic too. Also no surprise that Tigh and Laura running the resistance.

Poor Tigh, though! You can see how much he's been through. Never thought I'd say this, but yay for Ellen getting him out, I have a lot of respect for her now. She obviously really does love him after all.

Kara - poor Kara! What she must be going through, trapped with Leoben and every time she kills him, he just comes back. I hope she stays strong and doesn't let him break her.

Anders - could understand why he didn't think the fleet would come back. But he doesn't seem to be making much effort to find Kara - when he told Tigh there was no word, I admit I thought 'if you were Lee you wouldn't stop looking till you found her' - I'm sorry, I'm hopelessly biased!

On to the fleet - so Adama and Lee are at each others throats again, no big surprise there. And they need to stop that and work together if they're going to get everyone off New Caprica. I think they're both guilty and angry at themselves for leaving the colonists and blaming the other rather than facing it. Surprised that Adama is now confiding in Sharon, I would like some more backstory on that.

Now, Lee. I felt very sorry for him in this. His father and Dee are busy criticising him (and making cheap shots about his weight), but neither seems interested in why he's ended up like this. And when Dee said she'd married him because he was like his father - ouch. We've seen how Lee has always struggled to be his own person in his father's shadow, and be valued for his own achievements rather than being his father's son - that comment must have really hurt. Dee says he's lost his confidence, well I'm not surprised when she makes remarks like that. Have to say though, I prefer them being bitchy with each other than being all lovey-dovey - much more interesting!

It was well shown how Lee has lost his way and his motivation - because he's lost Kara? - and I hope Lee will pull himself together, tell his father and Dee to get lost, and get off to rescue Kara! And lose some weight. I still think Lee's attractive like this, he's not that fat, just a bit chubby, but I hope it doesn't last all series..yes, I know I'm shallow.

Well, off to watch part 2 shortly.  hope it includes a scene with Baltar and Caprica Six and their imaginary counterparts - I would love to see that.

So glad new series has started, and it's giving me an urge to write as well.
