Well, I'm back! Had a very enjoyable Christmas (well, the relatives strained my patience a few times, but luckily it was a short visit :)
But more importantly, I have *finally* watched the last two BSG episodes! And I enjoyed Eye of Jupiter as much as I thought I would.
Some things that interested me...
Have Lee and Kara actually gone as far with the cheating as to sleep together? It wasn't totally clear from the scene. Yes, Lee's guilt-tripping, but this is Lee, I can see him guilt-tripping like that even if it was just kissing. I personally think they have slept together though, it's more interesting that way :)
As for Anders' comment about 'You think you're the first?' - I never knew he had it in him. I nearly applauded. Because whether it's true or not, it's the perfect thing to say to get to Lee. Hits right in the heart of all the insecurities he has about Kara, and whether he's really as important to her as she is to him. Anders picked the right weapon there. Wonder if it's true or not, though. Would fit in with Kara's self-destructive behaviour patterns, and we have seen her use casual sex (Baltar - and Lee in Scar, kind of) to deal with emotional turmoil before. Surprises me though, because she really seemed determined to try to make it work with Anders.
I enjoyed the Anders-Lee confrontations all round. Especially the bit where Sam asks Lee what he thinks he's doing, and Lee cops out emotionally as usual and hides behind 'I'm trying to fight a war'. For some reason it reminded me of the scene (in Black Market?) where Dee asks him directly what's going on between them and he again cops out and pretends he doesn't know what she's talking about. I do like the way Lee seems utterly unable to be honest about or even admit his feelings to anybody except Kara. Very unhealthy for him, but I have a thing for emotional repression. :)
I loved Anders calling him a 'wind-up tin soldier' and loved even more the way Lee finally loses it and rants about how he's known and cared about Kara longer - because the most fun part about emotional repression is watching it break.
I'm very interested to see where they go from here - more angst, no doubt. I reckon Lee is either going to leave Dee for good (which I hope he does, because she doesn't deserve to be messed around like this) or re-commit to their marriage (out of guilt, which means it is doomed). I also think if he spends much more time with Sam he's going to end up 'giving up' Kara out of guilt over Sam, judging on this episode! And I know this sounds weird coming from a shipper like me, but I hope Lee and Kara don't end up together, because they are just not ready for it. It would just end in disaster. I don't need to go into the mountain of issues Kara needs to resolve, and at the moment I think Lee's just too emotionally insecure and vulnerable where she's concerned to be able to help her with that. He needs to distance himself and deal with some of his own issues first. (If that makes any sense).
And finally...Lee and Laura had a conversation! I nearly fell off my chair in disbelief.
Also watched the Christmas Day Doctor Who. Not a standout episode, but it was very enjoyable (though that may have been because I'd just had to sit through EastEnders and Deal or No Deal - if you don't know what I'm talking about be very relieved), David Tennant sucked me in as usual, and now I'm all geared up for series 3 having seen the promo at the end.
Unfortunately I'm now back at work. Oh well!
