I am writing this post up on Wordpad, because I refuse to pay for Office, and the internet is down to find any other word processors. It is so annoying, but it means that I can still be productive. So, I guess that is something.
I have got the holiday off my work for the Good Charlotte concert in Glasgow. It is going to be my 10th time seeing them live, so I thought I'd try and go. Mostly because I really don't know if and when they'd be back. When the internet is up and running again, I need to get my hotel sorted. It's all provisionally booked, but I need to pay up and stuff. Which I'd prefer to do in advance, because then it is out the way. I had already applied for the holiday before, but it hadn't been approved. Which was annoying. But there was an issue with the holiday system, so I guess that was why it never went through before. I think I have that, then I am off for a week the start of September, because I am going to Malta for the football. What a splendid few weeks it is going to be. So excited.
Work in itself, has actually been okay. Today I spent the day stowing. But I also got to train some new managers on the process, which was good. I just wish they could have spent the whole day, cause they never got the chance to work on their own, because they were only in my department for half a shift. But it was good, was lots of practice for all the newbies we'll have coming into the business in the run up to peak (the approach to Christmas). That time of the year we can sometimes have over double the staff in the building at any one time, and the night shifts and day shifts are each only half an hour off one another, like we finish at 7pm, and nights start at 7.30pm. So that is always fun. But work is good at the moment, really feel that I have a place to belong, and that I am a useful part of the team. Which is always a nice feeling.
Also at work I am in the associate forum, which is supposed to be a group of associates from across the building. And if associates have an issue that their manager can't seem to resolve, they pass it along to us. We can then liase with other departments and try and get a resolution. If there is nothing we can do, we can then take it forward to the General Manager of the warehouse, who has the authority to actually make stuff get done. I really enjoy speaking to people, and it is a fun job. The big pain is, that I am the only forum rep for the whole of the stow department, and have over 350 associates across all the shift paterns during the day. It's a lot of people, and I only get 2 hours a week to speak to the associates, and it really isn't enough time. So, I have come up with a plan, where I am going to try and write up regular problems, and what the outcome of these problems are. Just to give the associates information. And it also points out the resources that they can use themselves. In my head, it is the only way to make sure that all associates get their voices heard, and they know we are trying to fix things. It is so much work. It will be worth it though, cause I think it will be good for every associate to come into the warehouse and have as positive an experience as possible.
I am kind of rambling now, but it has been a really busy day, something I have needed to quieten the nonsense going on in my head.
