Blather blather blah blah blah
I'm in Illinois; I've been here for a couple of days. The past week plus was pretty wildly busy, with me trying to get ready for Finn's third birthday party (which was Saturday). My parents were coming to stay, plus my brother and his fiancee* were staying, and Hans's whole family came for the day of the party. So we had both sets of grandparents, and a complete set of aunts, uncles and cousins. Excellent! I made myself a little nuts trying to finish the unpacking and finally get some stuff up on the wall, but I was happy with how our house started to look more homey after I did that, and I'll probably actually take some pictures of it soon. I haven't uploaded anything to Flickr since long before we moved, and I really need to catch up.
The party was a lot of fun; Finn got a bouncy house with a water slide from Grandma and Baba for his gift, and all four of the cousins loved it all day long. We had some snacky food out and then I just ordered pizza for dinner, which feels like a pretty good tradition to me as it was much lower-stress than previous parties. It was a great day. My birthday was actually the day before, and was not that exciting although I did get a massage and order some items of my choice from Etsy. Finn's birthday is the big event now.
Then I headed out to Illinois with my mom and dad so Finn could visit them here. I'm taking it easy on trying to rush around and see a lot of people - I'm only going to try to make plans with one or two friends. I thought about heading to Chicago today but last night I hardly slept on account of a 45-minute crying fit from Finn (pain in the legs, I think growing pains) and a nauseous headache that began at 11:30 last night and which I STILL have, although it hasn't been as bad during the day today. I was concerned enough to go take my blood pressure at a grocery store. It was slightly high for me (116/80 at first when my normal is about 100-110/60, and I called my midwife practice but they don't think I need to worry, just keep an eye on it. But they called in some Tylenol 3 which I think I am actually going to use tonight because I REALLY need to sleep better and I am thoroughly tired of this headache, even though it's pretty mild now.
This afternoon I went to Ikea and just got a few odds and ends, mostly for Finn and the kitchen. I love Ikea, and I don't care if that makes me a bleating consumer. I would have bought more stuff if I had more room to carry it home. Remaining goals for the week are going to the zoo tomorrow if I am not feeling too sick, and the Field Museum on Friday, because Finn really wants to see some dinosaur skeletons and that is definitely the place to do it.
*They got engaged several weeks back but I did not have the OK to talk about it until now. Also, for those of you that know my brother, he got a teaching job in Tampa!!! Woot!!!
