Thanks to
ohmydearheart I am totally immerse into Czech New Era films. And I feel the need to share this love with you all. So I want to give you a couple of links. These films are two aesthetically pleasing experiences with great characters and unusual plots. Maybe you already know these, in that case tell me if you liked them or if you have any others in mind to recommend me. I wholeheartedly recommend both of them, but open your mind and don't expect anything typical. Press play and enjoy [The English titles are linked to the films].

[
Valerie and her Week of Wonders] by Jaromil Jireš (1970)
Little Red Riding Hood meets Alice in Wonderland. Valerie is a thirteen year old girl in a town with an interesting lack of morality and some scary people. It's really delightful to watch.
※ Sedmikrásky
[
Daisies] by Věra Chytilová (1966)
I am in love with this film, I mean it, it's the kind of film I'd like to make if I was a director. This is the story of two girls rebellion against society of consumption. How? Detroying everything. Visually stuning and very creative.
※ I have been watching many vanguard short films lately. If you are interested in watching some by Deren, Welles, Duchamp, Moholy-Nagy, Richter, Man Ray, Buñuel, Herbst, Steiner...
You can find them here. It's a Spanish site but these films are silent or have titles so no problem. There are some classic & sci-fi movies in english on this website too. To see the films click on the middle left on Canales, Expandir, then on Películas, you will see all the categories, on the second page is the Vanguardia one and the VO English films.
※ On my "What should I read next?" poll from my last post there were three winning books with 6 votes each one: Right Ho, Jeeves, The Rose Tattoo & Hotel Berlin, 43. So I will read them all soon. I started with Wodehouse, it's almost finished and I am loving it, it's so funny. Wooster is my fave character. My friend Eva lent me the other day the book Plastic Jesus by Poppy Z Brite so I might read it as soon as I finish this one... I also have one borrowed book on my night table that I have to return soon, Dostoievsky's The Insulted and Humiliated.
