None of which explains how a measly cold has him tucked him in bed being waited on by not one, not two, but three people. Martha feeds him soup and Mercy stares him down when he tries to work. When Lex gets extremely bored, Martha reads from a book she picked out of his library. When he gets cranky, Mercy bickers with him until he's fit for softer company.
And in and around all of that, Clark holds him up so he can shower and Clark roughs his feet when they're cold. Clark holds him and kisses him when reading and bickering just won't do and it's Clark who tucks him in at two o'clock in the afternoon, when Lex's exhaustion finally wins out over his determination.
It's also Clark he wakes up next to later, the cycle starting over as Martha brings food in for the both of them, Mercy standing with her arms crossed in the doorway and stopping him from asking if anyone's taken his company out from beneath his feet yet.

I particularly love the image of Clark tucking him in when Lex finally gives in. The look on Clark's face of loving exasperation combined with tendering caring as he smooths the blanket over Lex's chest and then lightly touches Lex's face, tracing the worry lines. Then he bends down to kiss Lex softly, hand on his forehead, before going over to the armchair on the side where he picks up a book and quietly waits as Lex sleeps.
