Well, I've watched Deep Breath twice now, and Peter Capaldi is growing on me, as I hoped he would. He's got the distinguished, elegant look of Jon Pertwee combined with the loopiness of Tom Baker. Of course part of that no doubt was due to it being a post-regen episode, but I'm sure at least some of it will stick.
Apparently Capaldi was just as big a Doctor Who fanatic when he was younger as David Tennant was, which is really saying something. I just read that he went so far as to send in scripts as a teenager, and struck up a correspondence with the then-producer, leading to getting invited to meet with the show's high-ups including Pertwee (who was the Doctor at that time). Wow. Then again, Tennant married into Peter Davison's family, so I'd say they're about even.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to his future episodes much more than I ever did with Matt Smith, who was fine but to me he was just sort of "there".
What do you think, any fellow Who fans who might be seeing this?
