Do you know what's worse? Amber is in denial hard core about Jacob's former relationship. And I can't say anything to her. I sure hope she comes up for air and takes a good look at what she's getting into.

What sort of denial? Like, she doesn't admit that it happened? She doesn't admit that Jacob is shallow? I don't think I understand.

She thinks everything the other girl says is a lie. She thinks Jacob is a victim. Gross.

Well, what sort of things is the other girl saying? That Jacob is shallow?

The other girl is saying that Jacob was talking to her about marriage. Amber is convinced that he was constantly unhappy in his last relationship.

So, how did they break up? Did he just propose to another girl and then tell the first girl?

He didn't tell the first girl. That was the problem. That's where I got caught in the middle. I thought he had told the first girl. She's someone I'm friends with (she's my visiting teacher).

She's your visiting teacher? Oh my heck. So, what, did she still think they were together? Or did they sort of break up before he proposed to the other girl.

I don't know. I'm just the one who is friends with everyone involved and trying to stay that way, even when they're making it hard. I just didn't realize how attached she still was.

Well, I hope you have an alternate plan for your 21st birthday. It's on a Sunday for one thing, and therefore probably not the best day to start drinking. For another, we will probably be spending your birthday driving back from Tucson. And a third thing is. . .well, you know.
