Timeline of events:
Sept 4th, 2009: Asked Marriott about renting a room for Dragon*con 2010. Was told rooms would be
available for booking for Sept 2nd thru the 6th on October 1st, 2009 at 8am.
Sept 9th, 2009: During a conversation with Nicole Seon regarding some issues with my room, I
reconfirmed that booking would be available October 1st, 2009 at 8am.
Sept 30th, 2009: Called Marriott Marquis Atlanta (404-521-0000) to verify that booking would be
available October 1st, at 8am I was told it would. When I inquired as to what Number to call to make
reservations I was told to call 404-521-0000.
October 1st.
At 7am Nashville time (8am Atlanta time.) 404-521-0000 was going directly to the voice mailbox of
“George Georgis”. Tried again, same result
7:02 am: Called 1-800-627-7468. I waited on hold for fivr minutes. I attempted to make a reservation
and was told that Dragon*con reservations can only be made DIRECTLY from the Marriott Marquis
Atlanta. I explained that I couldn’t get thru to them directly and asked if she could transfer me. She
said she could not and that I had to call them directly.
7:11 am: Called 404-521-0000. I was transferred directly to the voice mailbox of George Georgis.
7:11 am: Called 1-800-627-7468. I waited on hold for five minutes. Explained the situation, was told that
all reservations for Dragon*con were to be made thru the “Passkey” number. I was given the number
506-474-2009.
7:18 am: Try 404-521-0000 again. I was transferred directly to the voice mailbox of George Georgis.
7:18 am: Try 506-474-2009. Number is busy.
7:18 am: Try 404-521-0000 again. I was transferred directly to the voice mailbox of George Georgis.
7:19 am: Call 1-800-627-7468. I was on hold for Ten minutes. I explained the situation and was directed
to Customer Care. Customer Care informed me that the proper number for Passkey is 1-800-266-9432.
7:32 am: Called 1-800-266-9432. I waited on hold for eighteen minutes. When I spoke to a
representative, I was told that Sept 2nd 2010 was sold out but I could book Sept 3rd - 5th. During the
BOOKING process additional rooms became unavailable making it impossible to complete my
reservation. The Con rate requires a 3 night stay but during the conversation both Friday and Saturday
became unavailable. I discussed my options with the representative and was told that I should speak
to Customer care again. Transferred to customer care and explained the situation. Customer care said
they would contact the hotel directly. During this process I was disconnected from the agent.
8:18 am: Called 404-521-0000. Agent answers and informs me that all rooms are booked up and
absolutely nothing is available at any price.
8:22 am: Called Customer Care. Was told the same thing. No Rooms available, No rooms would
become available between now at Sept 2nd 2010. Hotel is completely booked.
What I want to know is why in none of my conversations prior to this was this Passkey number
mentioned? And why didn’t anyone at the 800 number know about it? Why did the Marriott Marquis
main desk number go to this George Georgis person? Why not just have a message clearly stating that
the number I should have been calling was 1-800-266-9432?
Better still was learning that people were just going directly to the website and booking a room while
I’m wasting all of this precious time on the phone!
