A run-in with the law

I have finished my Place page at long last! This one was definitely the most annoying of the three, not least because in the process of making it I attracted the politely concerned attention of The Fuzz. You see, last night I decided that 55th Street at night was a good place to draw because it has awesome streetlights, and I love streetlights. So ( Read more... )

I like your sketches. I seriously can't draw straight lines, which is why I usually revert to drawing bulbous creatures.

I think their concern was thinly masked suspicion on behalf of homeland security. They probably thought you were up to no good and were more worried that you had a backpack bomb than anything else.

Thanks! As for straight lines, though... can anybody draw them? I can't. Mine are actually prone to quite a lot of wobbling, but a perk of this assigment was that I had to reduce all the pictures to less than a quarter of their original size, which made them look all technical and delicate. Makes me see why cartoonists almost always draw bigger than their intended printing size!

Man, if the university cops are patrolling 55th Street in the name of homeland security the nation really is going to hell. If someone set off a backpack bomb on that traffic island, the only thing they could count on blowing up would the the island! In my opinion, most of Chicago is too lame to be a terrorist target, but even people who disagree with me on that have to admit that the neighborhood of Hyde Park is most likely safe. :)

you should see what they do when 4-10 kids hang out in front of my building (I live near the highschool). Seriously, I've been told once or twice not to head towards my building because..... there's a riot! Yes, now a bunch of bored high school kids=riot!and not at all safe for you little (white) girl!

completely love the drawings though

That is just silly! How do they possibly call that a riot? And why does everybody assume white women are wimps? That makes me want to cry. I mean kick asses....

Thanks!

I have no idea. Certainly the kids are loud and in the way, but they're just bored (although I question if they ever actually have to be in school based on the fact they're always in the street).

As for "white women being wimps" I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that these are kids from the same school as the kids who were beating up male UofC students last year (i.e. focus on my race and social status then on the female part as much). I've actually had (UofC affiliated) people tell me that where I live is "super dangerous" and that they would "never even walk there during the day", which is crazy. I practically live in Harper Court, which doesn't strike me as a den of iniquity.

The unlikely terrorist targets are always the ones that freak out the most! (Ohio is a afraid of boxes wrapped in gold foil for goodness sakes).

Good grief. Frankly, I think the entire Midwest can chill out, because while it's a fine region and all that, there is nothing very worth terrorizing here!

Also, the Mario boxes are great. Props to the pranksters!
