The two stood perplexed. Neither king Junno or prince Tatsuya had seen this coming. Sure, prince Kazuya was upset with Junno liking another prince, but to ban them out of the country. His country? That was a bit too much. The two looked at each other and sighed. Just as they thought they'd finaly have some luck, this happens.
The two rode of to the near by river and stayed there to rest.
"What are we going to do now?" Tatsuya asked the king.
Junno had the right to the throne, since his father had passed away and he was the oldest son of the royal family of Iden.
"We'll have to get in somehow" Junno replied.
That night they talked about the sturctures of the citadel. Fighting of everyone and bluntly going in wasn't an option. Junno knew Iden too well, the land had a strong army. If Kazuya had the power over this army they might die before they even reach the gates. They had to be smart rather than strong.
They waited another day near the river. As they were washing themsleves, or more like each other, in the river they saw horsemen coming in their direction. Quickly they hid behind the bushes near the river.
"Seems like their gone" One of the men said.
"Must have rode of to Barren with that pathetic prince of his." Another said.
"Hey! You are talking about our king you know!" Yet another one mentioned.
"Well, if its like this, I doubt he'll ever be our king"
They rode along the river towards the boundries between their lands. Junno knew they were right. Something had to be done. Not only for his own good, but if Kazuya was so upset about this whole thing, he probably wasn't going to be any good on the throne as well.
They waited untill nightfall and rode towards the citadel. Not to the gates, but to the northside, where a big forest was untop on the mountains. They sneaked into the citadel and towards the castle. When they got into the castle Tatsuya tok his sword and started to look for Kazuya. No one, not even his family to be, would keep him away from his beloved now. Not again, not anymore. He had enough.
Junno found his brother sleeping in his room. He didnt intend to kill him straightly. He had to give him a chance.
That morning, when the prince woke up, he found himself in a cell of his own castle.
King Koki of Barren had heard about this news and wanted to help the young prince. After all, they had been friends for a long time, without anyone knowing about it. He send over a messenger that arrrived in the middle of the night.
The guards of the cell didn't see a threat in a messenger and let him through. That night Kazuya escaped to Barren.
For a while it was peaceful in Iden. Junno had shown him around the citadel and his castle. They ate in the garden and lay in the grass holding hands. With no one there to blame them they could finally love each other like they felt to.
Junno was now on the thrown. Eventhough everything seems happy and quiet, deep inside both of them knew this wouldnt last unless it was solved.
Tatsuya decided it was time.
"Junno" He said.
"I need to tell you something."
"Before I was born Barren was like Iden. It had colours, trees, flowers and the people were happy. But something horrible happened. An evil witch felt jealous towards Barren and the richness it had and cursed the land and my family. Everything turned grey and dark. Only I wasn't affected. Since me, no one was born again in Barren, because not only the ground is barren, so are the women."
Junno was suprised. So there was a reason for all this. He never heard about it. Even at school they taught him it had always been like that.
Tatsuya reassured him that it really happed and the witch was still out there. No one ever talked about it because it was a taboo. The prince never understood why, because they didn't do anything wrong it seemed.
If they could find the witch and talk to her maybe Barren would turn green again and the king would see he was not a bad person. And so they decided to go on a quest.
