HAHA crap. I found an internet signal at school. It's amazing! I don't know how, why, or when this system or wireless internet (UNBLOCKED WIRELESS) was set up, but DANG I'm happy.
Okay, details about yesterday's lockdown. At approxiamately 11:20 AM, Bohannon and myself walk out of the front hall during passing while chatting about how I'll know from Georgetown in 2 weeks if I'm accepted or not. A Sheriff squad car along with a motorcycle cop pull up to the front of my school, going opposite of traffic. So Boho and I look confused as the motorcop zooms onto the sidewalk and zoom by Saehan and Roy (who look just as bewildered).
The cop stops and asks (while his squad car friend proceeds to secure our parking lot) "Have you seen a few black guys run by?"
Boho replies, "How many?"
Cop says, "Five to seven."
Boho says, "Nope, sorry."
Cop says, "Okay, we have a situation here. Plus return to your classrooms."
I bolt to the restroom (because I suspected we were going to be lockdowned soon) and upon my return the PA goes off.
"We are now in a serious situation. We are now having a lockdown. Teachers, please lock your classrooms. All students are required to be in their classrooms at this time. We will update you later as to what to do."
Okay, so this was 5th period, right before lunch. I'm in an outside facing classroom (my school, in its entirity, is a square block). No one wanted to focus on Civics (we were discussing Congress, filibusters, gerrymander, King of the Hill...etc), but we did so anyhow. At 12:20, our usual lunchtime, the PA comes up again.
"We are still in a lockdown situation. Teachers, do NOT release your students!"
Bah, stuck in class hungry, we bum rush Muna (who was eating chips).
At about 12:50 PM, the PA said, "We are still in a lockdown situation, but we WILL release the students to lunch. Students who usually return home at this time are asked to remain within the gates. We will update everyone soon. Lunch will end at exactly 1:10 PM."
Just my luck, I had two meetings during my freaken 20 minute lunch. I bolt from my English teacher Mrs. P's room to Mrs. S's room. One was AP Lit meeting (for the presentation I must make today), and one was for JSA Fall State briefing. So I went to both, practically twisted my ankle, and voila. I am still alive and well.
Now, we herd back to school at 1:10, and remain. We rush to 7th period (1:10 started 6th period) and stay there. At 2:50, the "school is out" bell rings, but another announcement goes up.
"Students are allowed to leave, but all must leave through the front gate. Shoemaker Avenue has been sealed off as a crime scene. Students and teachers, please proceed with caution."
I skip my locker, and rush to the front gate, only to get detained by my couselor.
"Seniors! The suspects were, and may still be, hiding in the parking lot. We need to see each of your trunks, NOW. Don't touch ANYTHING but your own cars."
Thank goodness you can see my entire car's trunk from just staring into the window (the love of SUVs!). I was safe. I left, proceeded home (down the opposite way because Shoemaker was sealed off...and yes).
Today I find out that one of our two SIAs, Joe, tackled one of the subjects while Mr. Williams, my last two years' chem/physics teacher, used his ninjutsu and pinned down the guy. My principal, Ms. Hager, sat on one of the subjects, restraining him. What had happened was THREE subjects bolted towards my school in an attempt to escape. Haha. Good idea. Try to blend in with a bunch of Asian kids.
Well, they were stopped. Joe, apparently, "broke" one of the legs of one of the suspects. The suspects, headed towards the school, were at the time BOLTING towards the group of 35 kids that were being forced to LEAVE school. So they were huddled in a corner, going "OMG" while the suspects were in front of them, being pinned down. Very interesting, no?
I thought it was. Whee.
My school was on the news. We're keeping Joe + Mr. Williams + Hugh (who is a custodian who also stopped a suspect) out of the news in fear that these bad people and their friends will harm their families.
But, these three staff members are MY HEROES. Thanks.
