Being parted broken-hearted
Bones is getting tired of Jim’s mixed signals. Bones considers himself a monogamist and Jim has the tendency to go after anything with a pulse.
2. City and Colour - The Death of Me
So here's to living life miserable
And here's to all the lonely stories that I've told
Maybe drinking wine will validate my sorrow
Every man needs a muse and mine could be the bottle
Bones tends to deal with his problems by drinking a lot, as opposed to Jim’s methods of engaging in random hook-ups.

Or why I'm a one man show
But these three cubic feet of bone and blood and meat are all I love and know
Leonard McCoy doesn’t so much like men, as he likes Jim Kirk. But he has become accustom to relying on no one but himself.

Despite his attraction to Jim, Bones is wary of engaging with him in anything besides friendship because of his obvious promiscuity.

Getting involved with Jim Kirk is probably the stupidest thing Leonard McCoy has ever done in his life, but he just can’t help himself.

Being with Jim Kirk is a lot like snorting cocaine, it’s bad for you and you frequently wake-up with nosebleeds.

Strip tease for me, baby
Any relationship with Jim Kirk invariably involves lots and lots of sex.
8. The Divine Comedy - In Pursuit of Happiness

Bones grudgingly admits to himself that Jim makes him disgustingly happy. He then decides to declare this statement drunkenly in the form of a song, much to Jim’s delight.

Now I'm going to pack my things and go
McCoy sees that his relationship with Jim is starting to go terribly, terribly wrong and he begins to plan his exit maneuver.

Is my timing that flawed, our respect run so dry?
Yet there's still this appeal that we've kept through our lives
Love, love will tear us apart again
Leonard McCoy decides that falling in love again was the worst idea in the entire world.
11. Jimmy Eat World - Get It Faster
I don't care what you do
I'm getting out
No, nothing ever shames me
Don't want a thing from you
I'm going out
I don't care if you're angry
McCoy decides that cheating on Jim is the easiest way to end whatever it was that they had.
12. Patrick Wolf - The Bachelor

I will never marry, marry at all
No one will wear my silver ring
Ever since he divorced his wife, Leonard McCoy has known that he is going to end up alone and miserable. This experience with Jim has solidified this fact in his mind.

Now it's two o'clock
The club is closed, we're up the block

Pressing hard against your jeans
Your tongue in my mouth
Trying to keep the words from coming out

McCoy rebounds from Jim by having as much meaningless sex as he can with one of his nurses.

Those crazy messed up things that you do
Bones and Jim begin to shakily rebuild their relationship. Bones is adamant that repeat performances of Jim’s past behavior will result in his leaving him again.

Something is muffled, another juggle

His relationship with Jim reaches a state of normalcy, no matter how temporary it may or may not be.

Once Jim Kirk sets his sights on somebody he doesn’t give up until he gets what he wants.

And how you wanna suck on it
And not me
Jim is becoming increasingly sexually frustrated with Bones and his rejections of his frequent advances. In fact, he can’t seem to think about anything else.

It’s all too clear

Jim Kirk has never been rejected in his life. He really doesn’t like the way that it makes him feel.

After his battle with Nero and the Narada, Jim comes to understand just how important his crew is to him. He has never felt more right in his skin then when he was leading his ship into battle, with McCoy by his side.
5. Bloc Party - This Modern Love

Baby, you've got to be more demanding
I will be yours
What are you holding out for?
What's always in the way?
Why so damn absent-minded?
Why so scared of romance?
Jim thinks that Bones might just be the one to make an honest man out of him if he would just get over his insecurities.

If no one moves then nobody's going to get hurt

I won't tell anybody
If you want to use my body
Go for it, yeah
In the end, all Jim needed to do was say “Shut up and have sex with me”.
7. The Darkness - I Believe in a Thing Called Love

You got me in a spin but everything is A.OK!
After a night of celebrating his saving the world from the Romulans, Jim ends up drunkenly shouting this song at the top of his lungs, much to Bones’ dismay.

You know that I'm no good
Monogamy has never been Jim Kirk’s strongpoint. And Starfleet uniforms shouldn’t be that short.

Get a taste in my mouth as desperation takes hold
Is it something so good just can't function no more?
When love, love will tear us apart again
Jim realizes that he has ruined their relationship, and that it is probably too late to fix it.
10. Cursive - From The Hips
We're at our worst when it's from our lips
From our lips we caused a rift
And this world is falling in
From Babel to barroom brawls
Our words have formed a death sentence
And I wish that we had never talked
Our hips said it all
Things were so much easier when it was just about sex.

After the break-up, Jim falls back into the habit of having as much casual sex as he can so he doesn’t have to think about his problems.

You don't need these now that you've found another pair
And the difference astounding, I should expect
I’m still in love with you (can't admit it yet)
Jim has distinct double standards about the amount of rebound sex Bones is having. He is, in fact, extremely jealous of all the copious amount of rebound sex that Bones is having with someone who is not him.
13. The Good Life - Don’t Make Love So Hard
I sit at the bar, you're off playing pool
Still you keep a close eye
On which girls I've been talking to
But day after day stumbles by
And I've yet to abandon your side
Jim tries to fix things, but it’s difficult to be in love with someone who has as much emotional baggage as Leonard McCoy does.

But he is going to try anyway.

Jim is optimistic about the situation regardless of how delicate it may seem now. If only Bones would understand, as messed-up as he is, he really does love him.
