Festivids Letter
Dear Festividder,
Omg I'm so excited. I hope you are too! Optional details are totally optional, please do whatever is going to make this exchange the most fun for you, I'm sure I'll love the end result. I realise most of my requests are just me yelling about my feelings, so really I am super easy to please. :D
If you find some detail helpful, read on! I'm actually just going to c/p from my letter last year because my tastes haven't exactly changed.
Some kinds of vids that I like include: vids that explore the world of the source, swishy dancey action vids, emotional character-driven vids, vids about awesome women whether focused on one individual or a group of them, vids about people who love each other, vids exploring big thematic ideas and imagery, vids about comedy hijinx.
All of the sources I've requested are very dear to my heart in different ways, and seeing one of them come to life in your vid is going to be awesome, I'm so excited. Musically, I haven't met a genre you can't make an awesome vid out of.
Some other bits and pieces that I like - parallels, characters growing into their own awesomeness, hugs, montages, pretty fight sequences, pretty dance sequences, big emotions, sentimentality, meta analysis.
I've been pretty slack on reccing vids I like lately, but my vid recs tag has had a lot of use over the years.
Bomb Girls [TV]
I love all the women on this show SO MUCH. An ensemble vid would delight me, as would anything focusing on Betty, Kate, Vera, or Betty/Kate (otpppp omg *_*).
Brave (2012) [Movie]
An overview of the film would be wonderful, as would a character study of Merida and/or Elinor. MOTHER DAUGHTER FEELINGS, I HAVE SOME.
Cloud Atlas [Movie]
This has been one of my favourite books for years, and I thought it was a beautiful film. I'd love to see any take on it from a big sweeping overview of gorgeous cinematography to a quiet character study. My favourite characters are Frobisher and Sixsmith, Luisa Rey, Somni~451 and Meronym, but I do love everyone.
One request: Frobisher's death hits me right in the vulnerable baby queer place still, right from when the book first came out, and so I wouldn't ask you to ignore it altogether or anything if you think the vid needs it, but if you could touch on it sparingly that would be fab. (I JUST HAVE A LOT OF FEELINGS ;_;)
Hercules (1997) [Movie]
MY CHILDHOOD. :D One of my favourite Disney films. I love absolutely everything about this and so will love any vid you choose to make. o/
Lego Star Wars (All Media) [TV, Web, Film short, Game]
All the animation they've made for this is just golden, and I'd love to see it in vid form in whatever way you so please.
London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony [Other]
I have a lot of Olympics feelings, and none more so than when it was right on my doorstep. The Opening Ceremony was amazing, from all the athletes to Mary Poppins vs. Voldemort to the glorious celebration of the NHS. I'd love to see what a vidder could do with it.
Pacific Rim [Movie]
MAKO. STACKER. MAKOOOOO. STACKER. RALEIGH CAN COME TOO. MAKO.
Um. I mean. If you would like to make an ensemble vid about this rag tag band of freedom fighters coming together to save the apocalypse, I would love that! But if you want to focus in on some specific characters, well. This film was pretty much the Mako Mori show for me - I love her arc, her relationships with Stacker and Raleigh, and also HER FACE. So a vid about her would be wonderful.
Star Trek - Next Generation [Movie, TV]
Honestly anything for this glorious show would be wonderful. An ensemble vid would be amazing, as would a character study of any of the women, or Geordi or Data or Picard or Worf. I do love Geordi&Data as a duo, too. A vid about any of the great tropes they use could be fun - the holodeck, or time travel, or some of the wackier planets they've found themselves on.
