Month of Awesome Women: Gwen Cooper (Torchwood)

"You all right?"

"I'm running around in a wedding dress with what feels like a keg of lager stuck up my skirt."

Gwen Cooper

There are a lot of things that I love about Gwen Cooper. I love that she's funny, that she has a brilliant smile, and that she connects quickly and deeply with people. She's not afraid of the unknown, or of risks, or of death. She's stubborn as hell, and clings fiercely to what she wants and who she loves and refuses to make compromises even when being told by everyone and everything that she must. She makes her own choices.

She's been through a hell of a ride during Torchwood, and she's made me feel every second of it, whether she's crying over pizza boxes, rising up to impossible challenges and world-ending villains, or just being breathtakingly, beautifully normal. She's endlessly resourceful and your go-to woman if you want to get shit done. You can count on her right until the end, when everyone else has left her or been taken from her, she can save the world all by herself.

She's bloody spectacular, is what she is.

I've really come to appreciate Gwen more and more through all the fabulous fanwork about her, and most of all through working on her arc in the Virtual Season and through playing her in an RPG. I love every member of Torchwood, but Gwen has a very particular and special place in my heart.

In which Gwen sets fires and puts them out, both metaphorically and literally.
