Made using photoshop CS2.
Open your base, you can duplicate it and screen it, but that might be unnecessary. Either way, you can always go back and do that later.
Since we're using a screencap, we'll start by making it brighter.
Layer>new adjustment layer>curves:
RGB: 50/70 ; 118/168
The image is a bit faded and washed out now. We'll use and color layer set to soft light in order to give it some color, contrast and in the process we'll make the colors stronger and a bit darker.
Fill a new layer with #391000 and set it to soft light, opacity: 30%.
We still want to add the image more color, so we'll basically do the same as in the former step, but this time we'll use a lighter color so the image won't get any darker.
Fill a new layer with #9b5820 and set it to soft light, opacity: 20%.
Now our image is colored as we desired, all we have left is to brighten it again. We don't want to get the image washed out and lose the colors, so we won't use any screen layers. Instead we'll make another color layer set to overlay. This works better than soft light since it'll make the colors more vivid.
Fill a new layer with #dadada and set it to overlay, opacity: 30%.
Almost done. All we have left is to give the image some contrast.
Fill a new layer with #dadada and set it to color burn, opacity: 30%.
That's all! If you're image is still dark, go back to the base, duplicate it and set it to screen.
